Wednesday November 30 2022 Selwyn Times 23 HORNBY CLUB OFFICIALLY OPENS AND WELCOMES ALL TO VISIT AFTER three years of interruption, due to an extended build process and the pandemic, the new multimillion-dollar Hornby Club is officially complete. e new Hornby Club has been transformed into one of Christchurch’s largest and newest hospitality and entertaining destinations and on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 December it will officially open with an opening weekend celebration. Tim Mathews, General Manager of the Hornby Club, says the Official Opening Weekend is a thank you to our current members and for everyone to come and see what the Club has to offer. “e Official Opening of the Hornby Club on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 December is an opportunity for members and non-members and the Hornby community to explore the new Club and check out all the wonderful new facilities. We are delighted with the incredible transformation and can’t wait to showcase the Club to new and old members. On Saturday there will be a free sausage sizzle, candy oss, raffles and fun for the whole family,” says Tim. As part of the Official Opening Weekend celebrations, Hornby Club is offering a special membership offer. If you join between 1 and 10 December, you will get three months free on your membership and go into the draw to win $5000 in prizes. e winner of the $5000 in prizes will be announced at the Official Opening Weekend on Saturday 10 December at 3pm. Membership is just $34 per annum. An important asset for the Hornby community, the Hornby Club has a long and dedicated history to the local area. In operation for 65 years, the Hornby Club has welcomed hundreds of thousands of members over its remarkable history. e new redevelopment is a step to secure its future for another 65 years. Tim Mathews says there is so much to enjoy about the new Hornby Club and its members have been central to the development. “We have designed a building that is for members and the community. We wanted to create a space that has an Events Centre that people can hire for sporting tournaments, celebrations, weddings and conferences, but we also wanted to include facilities that you would nd in a traditional Club like our all-new sports bar, café, Sunday buffet, pool room, snooker room and games room. To add to this, we have included a special facility for our youngest members with the introduction of an indoor children’s playground and outdoor children’s playground,” says Tim. In addition to the wonderful facilities, Hornby Club offers members a home away from home and a community to engage with. “I think that is a really important aspect of Clubs in New Zealand. We offer section sports which include pool, darts, travel, cards, golf, shing, cricket, snooker, bowls and more. is provides our members with a place to meet new people, engage with their community and to keep active. e sections are the heart of our Club and something we treasure,” says Tim. e Hornby Club’s Official Opening Weekend is open to all. Come down on Friday 9 December or Saturday 10 December and check out this amazing Club for yourself.
