ALUMNI OF THE DALE & PATTI DOWNS ‘69 KEN WOLD ‘52 LIFETIME OF SERVICE AWARD KINGDOM LEADERSHIP AWARD The Lifetime of Service Award is presented to alumni who have built a legacy of service and impacted the lives of multitudes with the love of Christ. LIFE Bible College became the training ground for what would be a lifetime of service. After marriage in June 1968 and graduation from LBC the following year, Dale and Patti Downs (‘69) began their ministry in the Northwest. The following years, the Downs ministered as Youth, Associate, and Lead Pastors in Decatur, IL and in numerous locations throughout California. A transition into mission work eventually opened doors for Patti and Dale to spend 18 years serving as teachers, speakers, Supervisors, and offering Pastoral Care in Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and Brazil. Returning from South America in 1991, the Downs then continued pastoral ministry in the United States. A notable highlight of their ministry was the initiation and oversight of translating “Foundations of Pentecostal Theology” by Guy P. Duffield and Nathaniel M. Van Cleave into Portuguese while in Brazil. Patti and Dale’s lifetime of service in mission work and pastoral ministry leave a rich legacy for their family: Dawn and Ray Houk, Daniel and Rene Downs, Deborah Downs and Todd Cook, Denise and Matt Streit, and grandchildren Quinn, Quincy, Naomi, and Declan. In December 2021, Dale went to be with the Lord while still serving with Patti as onsite pastors and managers at a Transitional Living Community sponsored by The River Community Church (Ventura Foursquare Church). Patti continues to serve in this assignment. The Kingdom Leadership Award is given to alumni who demonstrate faithful and Kingdom-focused leadership while serving within the Church and the marketplace. A 1952 graduate of LIFE Bible College, Kenneth Wold is part of a long legacy of Foursquare ministers starting when his family served with Sister Aimee in the 1920s, to more than 60 years with Bobbi who was his partner in ministry. Today, Ken’s family has grown to 7 children, 24 grandchildren, and 35 great grandchildren. While at LIFE Bible College 70 years ago, Ken developed a love for the living and written Word, and a thirst for the fullness of the Holy Spirit. As students, Ken met Bobbi (Roberta) Hardeman, who agreed to be his wife and partner in ministry until she went home to be with the Lord. Ken and Bobbi spent most of their time in senior pastor ministry, primarily in the Pacific Northwest. After 40 years of stateside pastoral service, the door opened for them to begin ministering overseas through Foursquare Missions International (FMI). For an additional 21 years, this opportunity became the “crowning season and fulfillment of their lives and ministry” as they served in Papua New Guinea and then for several years as Missions Reps, participating in short-term overseas assignments and reporting stateside in churches about the work of FMI. Today with his wife Sandy, Ken continues to minister in Washington and Oregon, especially as he makes regular hospital visits to serve among the sick and hurting. With the heart of a shepherd, Ken is considered a Father in the Faith by many LIFE alumni. 5 / CARRY ON MAGAZINE
YEAR AWARDEES WENDY WRIGHT ‘84 CHARLES LEE ‘97 BEYOND BORDERS AWARD ENTREPRENEURIAL AWARD The Beyond Borders Award is given to alumni who display Spirit-empowered Christian leadership in a country or in dedicated service to a culture or people group different than their birth heritage. This includes full-time Christian missionary work or volunteer service with a para-church or other service-oriented agency. A 1984 graduate of LIFE Bible College, Wendy has spent post-college life on the front lines, helping and protecting people who have no voice and whose lives are endangered or at risk of exploitation. Her commitment to living fully surrendered to Christ and His mission has led her on an unexpected journey from sidewalk ministry in protection of the unborn, to testifying in front of the Supreme Court, and offering policy advice in the White House. Currently, as President and CEO of Christian Freedom International (CFI), Wendy leads a ministry whose primary purpose is to aid, equip, and advocate for Christians who are oppressed or persecuted for their faith. Quick to give God credit for doing greater things in her life than she ever planned, Wendy acknowledges LIFE Bible College gave her a solid foundation and Biblical worldview so she could engage the pressing issues of the day with confidence. Helping refugees and the most-severely persecuted Christians in some of the most dangerous places in the world, with humility and wisdom Wendy is personally invested in serving “the least of the these.” The Entrepreneural Spirit Award is given to alumni who exhibit innovation and creativity in fulfilling the Great Commission by developing new methods, platforms, and resources through partnerships and collaborative efforts to reach new and emerging communities with the Gospel. A 1997 graduate of Life Pacific College, Charles Lee acknowledges that LPC helped him develop and refine the critical thinking skills to gain confidence and engage people of all backgrounds and expertise. After graduation, Charles planted four churches and taught at LPC. He recalls conversations with professors and peers discussing everything from theology to relationships to the future possibility of the Church. Most of all, he remembers learning that ministry flows through the power of human relationships. This season reinforced his understanding of his gifts and brought clarity to his future profession. As a result, he transitioned from vocational ministry and pursued his life-long passion for helping leaders better execute their ideas. Today, Charles is the Founder and CEO of Ideation, an idea-execution company that specializes in helping brands scale their business by effectively integrating their strategic plans into day-to-day implementation. His mission is to minimize the number of people who take their ideas to the grave. Privileged to work with some of the world’s most recognizable and influential brands, Charles is a front-runner in Christian entrepreneurship. Charles is a man of excellent character, a gifted teacher, an exemplary husband to Tina, and loving father to Jonathan and Alexis. WINTER <strong>2022</strong> / 6
