This bibliography began eleven years ago as a several page handout for interested forensic
science students. It continues to grow because of the questions posed by students and
practitioners about various disciplines used in solving crimes. My deepest appreciation goes to
forensic experts such as Frank Ciaccio, D-ABMLDI, Forensic Archaeologist Melissa A.
Connor, G. Geophysicist Clark Davenport, Dennis C. Dirkmaat, Ph.D., D.-A.B.F.A., Robert
Hall, PhD, JD, D-ABFE, Stephen Nawrocki, Ph.D., D.-A.B.F.A, York Regional Police Staff
Sergeant Greg Olsen, and Steven Symes, Ph.D., A.B.F.A. developing and supporting training
programs for which this resource continues to be used. They continue their support and provide
venues for exploring and presenting topics which address holistic approaches toward the
recovery of crime scene evidence. They, as well as the members of the F.B.I. Evidence
Response Team Unit and FBI St. Louis Division's Evidence Response Team have unselfishly
supported the multi-disciplinary training for which this bibliography was created. Now that I
have moved to another F.B.I. Division, I have had the opportunity to work with members of the
Pittsburgh's FBI Evidence Response Team. Again, I am impressed with the professionalism and
skill displayed by individuals volunteering their efforts toward the complete and accurate
collection of evidence from crime scenes.
Each year, I receive constructive comments and recommendations for additional citations.
David W. Hall, Ph.D., Tom Adair, Arapaho County Sheriff's Office, Mark Benecke, PhD,
Robert Spalding, and others I apologize if I have overlooked, have contributed this year to a
more complete collection of forensic resources. The advice and criticisms of my peers will
always be welcome toward helping all of us realize historical developments in forensic sciences
as well as the most recent innovations. Throughout the professional and scientific communities
from which crime scene investigators draw expertise, there are those who constantly strive to
push the state of arts to higher levels. For the experts and investigators who conceive then apply
those interdisciplinary developments I have the greatest respect and appreciation.
The printing of this document was only possible with the assistance of FBI Evidence Control
Technician Paula Wass, and through the efforts and expertise of Herbert Irvin of the FBI Print
Shop. The cd version of this bibliography was possible with the assistance of FBI St. Louis
Information Technology Assistant Anthony Meadows. And, as always, my wife and kids
receive my love and thanks for their patience, support, and for letting me come out and play.
