OPPORTUNITY profile
Chief Program Officer
Dear Prospective Team Member –
As we continue to navigate a pandemic-influenced “new normal,” I am grateful that
even during a season of pain and suffering we have hope in Christ and a clear vision
for the next 50 years. We began in 1971 and 2021 marked our 50th anniversary! Only
our God could imagine we’d be here today. So, what’s in store for the next 50 years?
Of course, only God knows the answer. Yet to the best of our human ability, we can
try to discern our way forward. Over the next 50 years, our Big Holy Audacious Goal
is a healthy church in every community of poverty. The local church is the hope of
the world, and we know the local church strongly influences the quality of life within
urban neighborhoods. We are laser-focused on building healthy urban churches.
Yet this cannot happen without trained urban pastors and leaders; so we provide
effective, affordable, and accessible urban ministry training. Over the decades, we’ve
witnessed countless stories of how investment in a God-called leader makes all the
difference in creating a healthy church that helps the neighborhood flourish.
Some highlights from Fiscal Year 2021:
» We successfully launched World Impact U, our online learning platform.
» We delivered programming in 156 cities, 25 states, and 28 countries.
» We trained 388 partners, certified 573 program trainers, and empowered
6,783 workers.
» The Uncommon Church book was published and we created the exciting new
Cornerstone curriculum for our Church-Based Seminary program.
» Donations were up over $900,000.
valiant leaders to engage in long, traditionally
structured pastoral training while devotedly
serving God.
RAFFI & MAJD
Since 2015, Canada has welcomed 45,000
Syrian refugees. Raffi and Majd, both
Syrian-born Canadian citizens, felt a calling to
minister to these traumatized men, women, and
children. They attended a World Impact Trauma
Healing training and became healing group
facilitators.
They then translated the material into Arabic to
use it in their outreach to refugees. Not only do
they host healing groups for refugees, but they
also train psychologists, psychiatrists, Christian
counselors, and pastors across Canada. Recently
a pastor who had attended one of the training
sessions visited a man who was contemplating
suicide. The pastor was able to use his training
from Raffi and Majd to share the hope of the
gospel and save the man’s life.
