CORNERSTONE UNIVERSITY’S BIBLICAL FOUNDATIONS 04 FOUNDATIONAL COMMITMENTS OVERVIEW Cornerstone University’s newly affirmed foundational documents, alongside the Confession of Faith, ground the university in the preeminence of Jesus Christ and Scripture. These key directional statements, rooted in the Word of God, guide, empower and protect the university’s academic pursuits, worldview formation and dedication to fostering a beautiful Christian community.
WORD OF GOD CONFESSION OF FAITH The Cornerstone Confession is the foundational doctrinal statement of Cornerstone University and is signed annually by trustees, faculty and staff. It expresses our commitment to the key teachings of Scripture as interpreted through the ecumenical creeds of the early church, the chief insights of the Reformation and evangelical Christianity. CORNERSTONE UNIVERSITY’S BIBLICAL FOUNDATIONS 05 THE CORNERSTONE CHRISTIAN WORLDVIEW The Christian worldview is a comprehensive outlook on all parts of life based on the Holy Scriptures— the Bible. Cornerstone University and all of its employees have committed themselves to the Christian worldview as the comprehensive outlook on all parts of life and as our guide for living and understanding the world. The Cornerstone Christian Worldview is the embodiment of this lived-out commitment. THE CORNERSTONE ACADEMIC VISION An articulation of the principles that Cornerstone’s faculty and staff commit to embody and live out so that Cornerstone students can be educated to be influencers in our world for Jesus Christ. THE CORNERSTONE BEAUTIFUL CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY The principles to which Cornerstone’s faculty and staff are dedicated to exemplify so that the Biblical commands to love God, love neighbor and love one another are richly embodied throughout Cornerstone and bless and shape all peoples from all diverse walks of life. MARRIAGE AND HUMAN SEXUALITY Cornerstone University stands with historic Christianity in affirming that the Bible contains clear teachings in the areas of sexuality and gender. As a Christ-centered university, we will seek to nurture students to engage their culture as Christ followers in every aspect of their lives, including their sexuality.
