5. Role and Function of <strong>Bannockburn</strong> <strong>Town</strong> <strong>Centre</strong><br />
5.1 Population Growth and Regional Catchment<br />
<strong>Bannockburn</strong> is the main convenience shopping and local service centre for a broader catchment<br />
within the south east region of <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Plains</strong> <strong>Shire</strong> (refer Figure 9 below). The population and growth<br />
of this region will influence the current and future retail and commercial land use demands in<br />
<strong>Bannockburn</strong>.<br />
Population projections for the wider catchment are based on the ID Consulting forecasts. The most<br />
accurate representation of the broader catchment area is found by including both the South East and<br />
Central East regions defined by ID Consulting (refer to Figure 10 overleaf).<br />
Population projections for the Central East and South East regions of <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>Plains</strong> <strong>Shire</strong> are<br />
summarised in Table 4 and show a forecast population of 12,256 by 2021.<br />
