Greetings Mini Rex Breeders!
First, I would like to take a moment to thank those
members that are consistently raising their hand and
offering to help keep the NMRRC moving in a forward
direction. Congratulations to Lizz Beason as she was the
recipient of the Mona Berryhill Presidents Award for
2022. Lizz has done a phenomenal job with the Youth
Committee and I appreciate everything she is doing to
support the future of the NMRRC. Thanks again to each
and every member that sits on or chairs a committee.
This is a very exciting issue as it is our Year in Review
issue of the NMRRC News. The NMRRC will continue
to publish our newsletter online, however once per year
we will print and mail one issue. This issue will include
National and Convention pictures (this past national we
did not get photos). It will also have a report from each
committee in order for the membership to see what is
happening in the club as well as these reports may spark
some interest on ways that you can get involved.
Congratulations to Rick Cartheauser on being inducted
into the NMRRC Hall of Fame. This is the highest honor
the club can bestow on a member. Rick has held multiple
offices on the board and you can always see him running
rabbits and keeping the show moving at every national
and convention.
What an exciting year we have had in the breed.
Effective December 1 st , exhibitors are able to show
Ambers, Smoke Pearl Marten and Sable Marten varieties.
In addition we are now able to show Black, Blue,
Chocolate and Lilacs in the Himalayan and Tortoise
varieties. These changes were a combined effort by the
ARBA Standards Committee as well as the successful
presentation of the Smoke Pearl Marten and Sable
Marten varieties by myself and Doug King. We are
happy to say this is the last presentation we are planning
on exhibiting. For me I have been working on
presentation animals for about 20 year and this was a
very exciting convention to have both varieties passed!
ARBA Convention in Reno was a success. The NMRRC
awards were the talk of the show room! We had a very
NMRRC Publication Quarter 1 January-February-March 2023
well ran show, the NMRRC once again held a hospitality
evening with food and drink at our booth, the club hosted
a pizza party on show day, the 24K and banquet action
were both successful fundraisers for the club, a reduced
cost banquet was offered to allow more members to
attend and the most important part was the coming
together of our members from across the country to enjoy
this hobby we love.
In this issue you will also find details for our upcoming
national show in Columbus, Ohio. As there was not a
bid, this show will be hosted by the NMRRC. You will
be able to enter by mail or online. Looking forward to
this upcoming show. The 2024 National Bid was
awarded to the Heartland Mini Rex Club and will be
April 5 & 6, 2024 in Hutchinson Kansas.
I hope everyone has a safe and happy holidays!
Until Next Time,
VP Report
December 2022
Hello everyone,
Sonya and I missed everyone in Reno, but we are really
looking forward to Ohio!
Unfortunately, life is still happening, and we have not
been able to attend shows lately. We have started a couple
of business-related projects that have brought us into a
new chapter of life. The only saving grace right now is
the quiet time we have when we spend time in the barn
with our rabbits. The upside is we are about to get
everything under control so that we can start attending
shows again soon.
One thing that we’ve learned is to not give up and keep
working through the process even if we don’t think we
have time to do it. In the past we’ve moved our herd
along and have learned the hard way that it takes an awful
long time to get back to where you were.
This time we decided together to focus on breeding and
culling and are very excited about the quality of the
youngsters we have coming up. So, with all that being
said I just want to encourage anyone that is in a valley of
life right now to keep your head down and keep working.
Don’t give up and whatever you do don’t give up on your
herd!
Congratulations to all the winners in Reno and kudos to
the Reno crew and everyone that helped them put on such
a successful show!
Everything seems to be quiet with the club right now, we
do have a few new board members coming in, please
make them feel welcome.
Remember it takes all of us actively participating to keep
our hobby and club alive, if you can please volunteer for
leadership roles and help the local clubs with the
enormous job it is to put on a show.
Also, if you see a new breeder take the time to answer
questions, help them out, introduce them to the Mini Rex
club, remember we were all that NEW breeder at some
point in our journey.
Keep those bunnies warm and your nest boxes full.
Looking forward to seeing everyone in Ohio!
Blessings,
Hello Everyone,
This newsletter is special since it is being printer. I have
missed a printed newsletter a bit but I am also happy
with how we have invested the money saved into the
membership.
Convention was a success! Thank you to one and all
that pitched in to help! I always say Mini Rex shine and
I think we did it again. Armando had a great team
helping him out and he worked hard to make this
convention special….big shout out to Armando and his
team!! We had an incredible banquet, our first themed
event and I loved that everyone played along with my
antics!! It was so fun!!
We have two new varieties, Sable Martens and Smoke
Pearl Martens (fast tracked by the ARBA Standards
Committee), along with a third new variety, the Ambers.
I am excited to see where the Ambers lead us! Hoping
people are excited about all 3 new varieties!!
This year our membership maintained around 800
people throughout the year. That is about what we have
averaged over the last several years. We issued about
2000 sanctions as shows have really picked up over the
last year! I realize now why I’m always so busy with
club work!!!
Take the time to read committee reports in this
newsletter. Hopefully we all get good updates and learn
something new!!
Happy to help with any questions!
Wishing everyone the very best for the holidays and
hoping 2023 Rocks Your World.
Be safe, be kind and I can’t wait for our next
encounter!!!
Hello Mini Rex Friends,
It’s hard to believe that another year is nearing an end and what a year it’s been. A sense of normalcy seems to have
returned after the harsh effects of the pandemic and that’s refreshing. Personally, I’m coming upon a year as being your
not so new anymore Treasurer. Change and transitions are never easy but Sandy Doyle had done a tremendous job and
was there for support and guidance when she handed over the reins.
A great time was had at the Convention in Reno, NV. Congrats to all the open and youth winners! I thoroughly enjoyed
the Luau themed banquet. It was fun to see so many people participate with their Hawaiian attire. Doug King went
above and beyond to create the festive atmosphere – thanks!
Results for the Convention Banquet Auction are included in this newsletter as well as the financial report for the 2022
fiscal year. Thank you to the membership who continues to give and support club endeavors through the various
auctions and raffles we hold. Due to this generosity we remain financially healthy.
Wishing you all a safe and happy Holiday season.
Hello from District 1. Lots of things will have happened
by the time you read this, convention will be over and
so will the end of year holidays. I hope everyone had
an enjoyable holiday season. This was my first
convention as a district representative and I learned a
lot and met many new people. It was so great to meet
the new and catch up with the old. I look forward to
seeing everyone again in Louisville. Speaking of that if
you haven’t gotten a place to stay in Louisville for the
convention I would get right on it. Places are selling
out fast!!!
The Pacific Crest Mini Rex Club here in the great
northwest has been busy. We all got new aprons with
the logo on it and we held a specialty at CRCS Red Bluff
show in December. There was a great turnout and we
plan on holding more specialties through out the
coming year. The first one in the new year will be at
the Wanderlust Rabbit and Cavy show in Stevenson,
Wa on Feb 24 and 25. I encourage all PNW mini rex
breeders to enter these specialty shows if you can.
They are well run and the awards as great!!
As I write this the whole country is coming out of a
deep freeze. It started here in Central Oregon the
Wednesday before Christmas and marched across the
country. My rabbits are in a heated barn so they don’t
even know it’s winter but if your rabbits aren’t please
make sure you keep them dry and out of the wind.
They can pretty much do all the rest to keep warm.
It will be time to start breeding for convention before
we know it. I’m lookin forward to breeding for my first
litter of showable ambers for convention. I’ve had
ambers off and on for years because I raise the right
colors for that, red and chocolate, but of course have
never been able to show them. I’m excited to see what
I get and it will be exciting so see all the new varieties
in the upcoming shows and at convention.
That’s about all I have for now. Keep yourselves and
your rabbits warm and dry and fill up those nest
boxes!!!
Happy New Year District 2!
I do want to reflect on 2022, especially our ARBA
Convention held in Reno, NV this year. As breed
chairman, I was very overwhelmed at times, but kudos
and thank you to the many breeders/exhibitors, that I
don't dare try to name off for fear of missing anyone,
who all stepped up and volunteered to help guarantee
the success of our ARBA Convention and Show. From
the booth volunteers to the showroom clerks, ramrods
AND runners, including the banquet organizers and
auction and Trio Raffle Committees, YOU ALL
ROCKED!!! :) A hearty congratulations to Alyssa and
Breana Sullivan on their Open BOB win with a stunning
broken Sr. Doe and Cole Simmons and Alyssa Sullivan
on their BOSB win with a beautiful castor Sr. buck.
Congratulations also go out to our Youth BOB winner,
Henry Ballinger with a broken Jr. doe and BOS winner,
Jordan Crawford with a broken Sr. buck.
2022 was also a full year of mostly uninterrupted shows
and the ability to travel to shows, without restrictions;
to be able to show again, without worry, was quite
refreshing to say the least. Sometimes we never really
recognize what we have, until we suddenly lose it; the
showing aspect of our hobby was certainly affected and
I never want to take it for granted.
first love of breeding, raising and showing rabbits that
got me started in this hobby.
Welcome any and all new District 2 members to the
National Mini Rex Club! District 2, please remember
that I am here and available for you if you need
assistance with anything mini rex related. I feel
optimistic that 2023 will be even greater than 2022 as
we regain momentum and bring more and more
normalcy to our daily lives in the hobby. Keep your
nest box babies warm and may those warm babies
grow up to be beautiful show winners! :)
Now let's get out there and promote our beautiful and
competitive breed! :)
Respectfully yours,
Armando
By the time you read this, 2022 will be in the history
books and I am looking forward to 2023. Personally,
2023 will be a full year of judging less, but showing and
breeding more. It's a good feeling to go out and show,
AND not be left completely in the dust by other mini
rex exhibitors showing their quality animals. ;) I'm
looking forward to focusing on my herd, since it's my
I promise to represent the district well and voice your opinions and
wishes. I am so proud of our district! We have such an excellent
group of passionate breeders! Please know that I am always a
great resource for questions and connections. Do not ever hesitate
to reach out.
For those of you who do not know me, I am from Wisconsin Rapids,
Wisconsin and have been raising mini rex for sixteen years
with my dad, Jeff, and my sister, Breana. Together, we make up
ARS Rabbitry. Currently, we specialize in black, otter, tort, and
broken in those colors with occasional whites and blues. In the
past, we have raised sables, smokes, seals, chocolates, and lilacs.
I also currently raise castors with my good friend, Cole Simons.
I got my first two mini rex when I was 8 years old. They were very
un-show-worthy animals being overweight, incorrectly colored
booted castors, named Annie and Ace. I was able to get some babies
out of them to show at the fair where I got a taste of the
rabbit addiction. I joined 4H, and dad was able to find me better
show and breeding stock. Annie and Ace were not perfect, but
they started my passion for the most important hobby in my life
today. Throughout the beginning years of ARBA showing, we had
some incredible mentors, such as Laura Hutler, Sara Amelse, the
Compart family, and Doug King. They taught dad and me so much
in those beginning years, and we are forever thankful.
Throughout the years, we have been extremely fortunate locally
and nationally. Some of our most exciting wins nationally have
been:
● BOB youth 2016 Nationals
● BOB and BOS youth 2017 ARBA Convention
● BOB youth 2018 Nationals
● BOS youth 2019 Nationals
Although I am new to this position, I am not new to the district, so
I am still able to give you all a recap for 2022. Wow, I cannot believe
2022 is almost over. It was a great year full of a lot of great
shows. Shows are finally getting back to normal after COVID. We
are seeing very good numbers within our district’s shows. One of
the best compliments I hear from judges after shows are completed
is that our quality is consistently some of the best in the country.
I am so proud of my fellow breeders and how competitive yet
helpful we all are towards each other. It definitely feels like we are
all family!
I am also the President of the Midwest Mini Rex Club serving the
same district. We were able to put on 10 specialty shows this
year. If you are in District 3, please support this club. We host
specialties for YOU. We want to give you the opportunity to show
your rabbits more and spend more time with your fellow breeders.
Our ultimate goal is to host a National one day. So, please, enter
that extra rabbit or two at the specialty shows, so we can
make this happen. If you would like to help host a specialty in
your state within the district, please contact me. We are always
looking for help and support.
All in all, keep promoting the best breed ever (Mini Rex!!!!) and
encourage new breeders to get started. Get them set up with
good stock and be a mentor for others. I am so excited for what
2023 will bring to District 3. See you at some shows! Please enjoy
some pictures from our District 3 breeders!
As our hobby grows the competition gets tougher and
tougher. When you have a great breeder to compete
against they make us make tougher decisions and in
the long run improve our own herds, so with that
being said don’t resent them for winning as they have
just helped you become a more focused breeder, go
thank them for a job well done. Let’s keep this hobby
fun and not ruin life long friendships over petty
jealousy. Tough breeders make us all better.
The beginning of the year was good for showing
and after nationals we all go home and regroup
culling and breeding for convention prospects. The
summer shows are usually good as far as numbers in
shows but Texas numbers dropped off pretty low
compared to previous years.
The fall shows usually show an increase in
numbers as the temps cool down. A recent Missouri
show had numbers of 174 to 233 minirex shown,
there are a lot of active breeders in Missouri.
We can look forward to the Kansas group hosting
nationals in 2024, I am sure they will do another
fabulous job. I would encourage everyone to attend
their show as there has been elections and new
officers are in place.
Hello NMRRC!
What a year for our wonderful breed and club! Texas
hosted another outstanding Mini Rex Nationals like they
always do. It is a bit of a trip for us coming down from
the Northeast but boy is it ever worth it. Some beautiful
animals won out in Reno and considering the long
distances for most of our membership to get out to Reno,
NV I was very impressed with the numbers and quality of
Mini Rex in attendence. I believe Louisville is going to
bring out great numbers for our breed, I know there are
multiple breeders here in District 7 that are itching to get
to a convention. Hospitality and events in Reno were
coordinated by Doug and Armando to perfection, with
the themed NMRRC Banquet being a huge hit! Allyse
Sullivan and crew did an outstanding job with all the
donors that contributed to the 24K Auction, where I
believe the 3 highest selling rabbits were all youth
rabbits! Don't forgot our youth breeders when looking to
add to your herd, our club is fortunate enough to have
some impressive youth families/breeders within our club
at the moment.
District 7 in 2022 has been picking up the pieces from the
COVID pandemic and RHD scares on the rabbit hobby.
It's been quite encouraging to see how active our district
has been in hosting shows over the latter part of the
summer and into the fall season. While we have some
shows in limbo in New England, New York has done an
admirable job in creating new shows for our breeders to
attend. Winter time coming up is a time of year where
we tend to have to travel to District 9 and attend shows in
New Jersey or Pennsylvania but being able to compete
with our NMRRC breeders in that area of the country is
always a challenge and a treat. Load sof great
competition!
Cheers to another great year of good health, for our
rabbits and their humans!
District 7
The further we get away from the challenges of 2020 and
2021 I think District 7 will be having some nice
representation at our national shows and that excites me,
as I know there are a handful of breeders that are eager to
get out and show off their hard work over the past couple
of years.
It was great to be able to attend nationals this year in
Texas, always a great time! We were blessed to be able to
We had a fabulous time at the 2022 ARBA Convention
in Reno!! Mini Rex were very well represented and I
travel stories. Congratulations to all of our open and
youth winners!!! Open Best of Breed honors went to
Allyse and Breanna Sullivan. Open Best of Opposite
went to Allyse and Breanna Sullivan and Cole Simons.
Youth Best of Breed honors went to Henley Ballinger.
Youth Best of Opposite went to Jordan Crawford.
I hope that everyone is making plans to attend
the 2023 National Mini Rex Show in Columbus,
Ohio. The show is May 5th through the 7th. This
National is being held in conjunction with Ohio Mini
Convention. I think that Mini Rex will be very well
represented! Please visit the NMRRC website and
NMRRC Facebook page for more information.
I have had the pleasure of judging and attending
shows in almost every state in D9 this fall. I have
LOVED seeing Mini Rex numbers so high in both open
and youth!! It has been so fun to get to chat with
many breeders and see our breed so well
represented.
I have submitted a ton of photos along with my
article. I encourage all of our members to keep
sending me photos to send in!
As always, I am available to answer any questions or
Youth Corner
First things first, THANK YOU to everyone that
donated to (or bought tickets from) the NMRRC
Raffle table at Convention. I’m happy that were able
to bring in so much to help the Linda Thompson
Memorial Scholarship Fund. Also, congratulations to
Henley Ballinger and Jordan Crawford for their BOB
and BOS wins in Youth with their brokens!
Since winter is here, the show scene tends to slow
down a bit. This is a great time for the kiddos to
relax. It’s also a great time to catch up on the to-do
lists, reorganize from the busy show season, and
prepare for the upcoming season. One thing that this
time can be used for is getting together a cache of
youth contest items (posters, photos, etc) for the
new year. It’s much easier preparing these items
now, than during the summer break when there’s a
lot more stuff going on.
Just a few quick words regarding Nationals in Ohio.
The Youth Committee will be putting together the
silent auction again, and proceeds for this will go to
the Linda Thompson Memorial Scholarship Fund. We
will be looking for exceptional mini rex and custom
items to be donated, so please keep us in mind! We
will also be doing something new this coming
Nationals where ALL items in the silent auction will
be placed on Facebook, giving those that can’t be
there an opportunity to bid.
Also, I’m needing help from our youth in designing a
coloring page. We are wanting a totally unique
picture. The only requirements are that there needs
to be a mini rex in the picture, and it must be 100%
created by a youth. These can be hand drawn or
digitally created. Email all pictures to
MBRMiniRex@gmail.com or send them to me on
Facebook.
Until next time,
Hi everyone!
My name is Allyse Sullivan, and I am writing on behalf of myself, my sister Breana, and Cole Simons for our BOB and
BOS wins at the 2022 ARBA Convention. Breana and I were honored to win BOB with ARS Tigress (broken otter
senior doe), and Cole and I won BOS with Dynasty Ralphy (castor senior buck). I will go into detail about these two
special rabbits and partnerships below.
ARS Tigress (BOB 2022 ARBA Convention and Best Colored Fur):
Tigress has always been a special baby. She had that glow and look that made Breana and I get goosebumps every
time we saw her pop her head out or jump out of the nestbox (see pictures of her adorable face for reference). As
she grew up, she became more and more promising until she finally primed out as a beautiful senior at about 10
months old when she won her first 3 BIS’s at the Stillwater, MN show and BIS and Best of the Best at the Wisconsin
State Convention one week later. We were hesitant about her being finished for the ARBA Convention at almost a
year old, but she proved us wrong. We have been working towards an open BOB since the start, and we are so
honored and thankful to have had the opportunity this year. I know our younger selves, dreaming of this moment,
would be so proud! We cannot thank our parents and family for all of their support and help getting to this
moment. We are truly blessed! Tigress is out of ARS London (BIS winner, 3rd broken senior doe 2021 ARBA
Convention) and ARS Blacklist (2nd otter senior buck 2022 nationals, our main herd buck). Breana and I were also
thrilled to win BOG and BOSG tan with ARS Northern Lights and ARS Pendleton, BOSG shaded with ARS Flamin’ Hot
Cheeto (tort buck), and BOV black with ARS Genesis. These wins together and many top five placings gave us the
opportunity to win Best Display as well.
Dynasty Ralphy (BOS 2022 ARBA Convention):
Cole and I have been great friends since Breana started raising Netherland Dwarfs about 3 years ago. He has been
her mentor and closest friend in the breed. Cole and I decided to join forces about a year ago wanting to raise a
breed together. We combined both of our interests of Cole loving agoutis and me loving Mini Rex and decided to
raise castor mini rex together. We call our rabbitry Dynasty Castors. Our goal has been to improve type and fur on
the castors by using the ARS otters. Dynasty Ralphy was actually produced from our first cross doing this. He is out
of Ringer’s RVC10 (castor) and ARS Blacklist (otter) who is also the sire of ARS Tigress. Ralphy has become our main
herd buck with limited showing. He was able to get a BOS at a big show in March 2022 as a young junior and did not
show much more after that due to needing to finish his luscious, dense coat. As we hoped, he finished for
convention and looked better than ever. Winning BOS so early in our project surpassed so many goals for us, and
we are still on cloud nine! We will continue to work hard on this beautiful variety with more goals in mind. We were
also honored to win BOSG agouti with Dynasty Crumbelina (castor junior doe) who is also Ralphy’s little sister.
2022 ARBA Convention will be one we never forget! I am so thankful I got to share the moment with my best
friends! A huge thank you goes to the convention crew for all their hard work!
Lowry & Kim Minirex
Joe Kim ·
How to buy a Rabbit:
1. What’s the main weakness in your herd ? What are you working on the hardest to fix? Don’t
expect to buy a 90+ point animal. I set a floor on any rabbit leaving my house. It needs to be an 80+
point rabbit to survive. Not everyone sets such a floor nor does an 80+ point rabbit to me mean the
same thing to someone else. Be realistic.
2. What faults are you willing to accept ? Such faults you’re willing to live with should not be
prevalent in your herd. If you are in need of a deep, round hindquarter you should be willing to live
with a rabbit that’s a little longer in body or slightly pinched. **The degree of the fault is much more
significant than the actual fault** Experience has taught me animals that are deeper and peak more
correctly are more prone to have less fullness in the lower hindquarter and more likely to have longer
shoulders. That’s why making a great rabbit is so difficult.
3. Do not buy based solely on pictures. I can take 10 pictures of the same rabbit and make the rabbit
look different in each picture. Be wise and TELL THE BREEDER WHAT YOU’RE TRYING TO
FIX AND WHAT FAULTS YOU’RE WILLING TO LIVE WITH. Just remember, a rabbit is a sum
of its parts. You can use the parts you have to fix the faults you inherit as long as you’re getting the
main trait that’s missing in your herd.
4. Do not expect to buy show winners. You’ll derive much more satisfaction producing your own
winner versus buying one from someone else. Just remember, you’ll have the ability to reproduce a
winner if you own the parents. Buying a winner offers no guarantee on how that animal will produce.
You’re goal should be to become a good breeder, not a good buyer.
5. Try and visit the breeder to look over their herd. With plenty of people offering transport service
and with the convenience of PayPal, it’s easy to just look at a pretty picture and buy. Taking a
weekend to visit a breeder will provide you with the opportunity to see and handle their best rabbits
that aren’t for sale. You’ll also get to see the prevailing strengths and weaknesses in their herd. It’s a
valuable learning experience.
6. Be courteous to all breeders. Do not be that breeder that asks for a “deep, dense herd buck with a
great high point, great loin and full hindquarter.” Be open to learning and look for the characteristics
that give a herd its identity. Look at their herd bucks and brood does. That’s the best sign of how
strong a herd is. Good breeders will have a lot of 85+ point rabbits and handful of 90+ point rabbits.
Don’t expect the 90+ point rabbits to be for sale.
7. Price is a function of supply and demand. A rabbit is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay for
it. Some sellers will charge more and others will charge less. A good way to avoid disappointment is
to actually visit the breeder before committing to a purchase. Invest in time and gas. It’s worth it.
8. Don’t be the person who resells rabbits at a huge mark up from the original purchase price. The
original seller will not be pleased that they offered you a quality rabbit at a fair price just to watch it
be resold at a profit.
9. Avoid burning bridges. I am guilty of buying based on pictures in the past. I’ve been sold quite a
handful of culls along the way by several so called top breeders. In each case it was 100% my fault as
the person willing to buy the animals. Cull, learn your lesson and move on. What looks ugly to you
may be beautiful to someone else.
10. Try and credit fellow breeders who helped you. You aren’t a miracle worker who makes beautiful
rabbits out of culls. Someone helped you along the way. Show some appreciation along the way and
turn off your ego. People will respect you far more in the long term.
Committee Reports
Audit Committee
Hi everyone!
I did an audit of the Treasurer’s records while in Reno. Lee, the new treasurer, is doing a good job
documenting all of the expenses for the club. Everything was organized and easy to look through. I made a
few suggestions (including that he needed to pay himself!) but he is doing an excellent job. The club
continues to have a strong financial position as we move into the next fiscal year.
Trio Raffle Committee
We have been having great raffles! This last two years we have added the option of purchasing tickets on line by themselves or with
your banquet tickets and that has worked out amazing! This past convention we had over $2,000 in presale of raffle tickets prior to
Reno! I have been thrilled with the interest in buying and kindness and willingness of top breeders to donate to the raffle! I have
already spoken to and secured donations for next year in Louisville two out of my three donations! Exited to finish out my donations
after nationals in Ohio!! I’ll keep all of you posted!! Again thank you for purchasing and donating to ore great trio raffle!
Trio Raffle Chair
Judges Selection Committee
Very pleased to announce the committee worked hard this year to develop a new procedure for selecting
judges for conventions. The committee worked closely together and great input was given by all 3
members. The new procedure was voted on by the BOD at the Board meeting in Reno. The procedure
can be found in the Policy and Procedures document.
Looking forward to implementing the new procedure this next year!
Thank you,
Doug
Chairperson
Update from the Constitution & By Laws and Policy & Procedures Committee
This year we did not have any changes to the C & BL, so unfortunately the committee didn’t ever have to
meet. I think this says something about our document, it is well written and assists the Club as we move
through the years. If anyone has any questions or suggestions, please reach out.
The Policy and Procedure document was updated a few times throughout the year. These were updates
voted on by the BOD in meetings.
Please take the time to browse through both documents. I get asked a lot of questions that can be easily
The Hall of Fame Committee received a nomination in 2022. The members of the committee discussed the
nominee and made the recommendation to the Board of Directors. The Board voted and as a result Rick
Cartheuser became the newest Hall of Fame member.
Auction Committee Report
Hi everyone!
My name is Allyse Sullivan, and I am the chairperson for the NMRRC Auction Committee. If you
are not familiar with this committee, we conduct the 24K Auction at each ARBA Convention and
help facilitate the auction at each NMRRC banquet. Our committee had some recent changes to
membership, and these are our updated committee members: Allyse Sullivan, Cole Simons,
Becca Forney, Sara Compart, and Maple Ament. We are so excited with our new additions,
Sara and Maple. We know that they will bring new ideas and help the committee put on the best
auctions we can.
The Auction Committee was extremely pleased with our results from our 24K Auction at the
2022 ARBA Convention. We were fortunate to have 18 animals up for auction this year. The
total number of sales between these animals was $11,675. Therefore, the auction profited the
club with $5,837.50. I cannot thank our donors and buyers enough for supporting the NMRRC.
Another huge thank you goes to Cole Rupprecht for being our auctioneer! I am looking forward
to an even bigger and better auction at the 2023 ARBA Convention in Louisville, KY.
Another new idea we had this year, thanks to Sara Compart, was creating a discount for youth
who wanted to purchase a rabbit in the 24K Auction. Four youth had the opportunity to get $100
off their purchase in the 24K Auction. We did this in place of having “youth only” mini rex in the
auction. We want everyone to have a fair chance of the beautiful animals that are donated in the
auction.
As for the auction that the club hosted at the 2022 NMRRC ARBA Convention Banquet, you can
find those results in Lee Bastyr’s report as the treasurer of the NMRRC. There were someawesome items as
always. I cannot thank Jerry Parks enough for stepping up as the auctioneer
for the banquet auction. We definitely all had a blast!
Here are the results of the 2022 24K Auction:
Standards Committee Report
I hope everyone had a great holiday season full of joy, laughter and peace.
I want to first thank our current Standards Committee for their hard work and support: Sandy Doyle, our returning senior
member; new members added in 2022, Shane Ringdahl, Sonya Charles and Kim Redelman. I am grateful for this
committee's valuable input, as experienced breeders, during our discussions and decision making process.
This has been a great year to add some beautiful varieties to our show room classes, all effective 12/1/2022. All new variety
descriptions can be found in your November/December issue of Domestic Rabbits and on the ARBA Website: https://arba.net/arba-standardscommittee/
First, and foremost, a VERY BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Jeremy Watmuff and Doug King for successfully presenting two of our latest
varieties, the sable marten and the smoke pearl marten. These two varieties were added through our challenging/existing ARBA system and I can't
tell you enough, from personal experience, the appreciation we need to have for the amount of sacrifice, dedication of time and money, that it has
taken for these two gentlemen to get these varieties approved. Jeremy and Doug, THANK YOU!!!
We were also fortunate to add the following varieties this Fall, as a one-time opportunity, that was provided to us by the
ARBA Board and ARBA Standards Committee:

Amber
Himalayan chocolate and lilac varieties (adding to black and blue varieties)
Tortoise blue, chocolate and lilac varieties (adding to black variety)
These latter varieties were voted on and approved my majority ballot of our membership before being presented and voted
on by the ARBA Board of Directors.
I optimistically welcome the New 2023 Year and hope you do too! If you have any mini rex standards related questions or inquiries, please don't
hesitate to reach out to me or any member of this committee.
Respectfully yours,
Armando
