Two Women at War:
The Genius of Margaret Bourke
White and Lee Miller
Join photo expert Alwyn Hanson from Alwyns Photo
School Melbourne as he discusses and shows images
from two of History's greatest women Photographers:
Lee Miller and Margaret Bourke-White. Both were
prominent photographers before WW2 Lee Miller with
Vogue and Margaret Bourke White with Life Magazine.
Both served with the US army throughout Europe from
1944-1945, and both saw the war from combat to
the horror of the death camps. Lee Miller with Vogue
documented the US army through France and into
Germany, finally showing her contempt by washing
the mud of Dachau in Hitler's own bath. Margaret
Bourke White was bombed in Moscow, torpedoed in the
Mediterranean, flew with the US Air Force over Germany
and finally to see the end of the Reich in Germany.
Both left us with images of both awe and sadness.
