Booking an Event<br />

All bookings are for events held 1st March <strong>2023</strong> –<br />

31st May <strong>2023</strong> and will be held over Zoom, Facebook,<br />

YouTube or in person.<br />

Spaces fill up quickly so we recommend you book in<br />

as soon as you can. If you can no longer attend, please<br />

contact a member of staff or cancel online so it can be<br />

offered to someone on the waiting list.<br />

If your chosen event is booked out, join our waiting list.<br />

We will contact you if tickets become available.<br />

Visit wml.vic.gov.au and select the ‘Events’ tab. You<br />

can search for the event name or browse by category,<br />

audience, language or month. Click on the event and<br />

click the red ‘Register for event’ button on the righthand<br />

side. Please make sure your details are correct<br />

as a staff member may need to contact you regarding<br />

your event.<br />

Peter Hitchener Reads<br />

Peter Hitchener or 'Hitch' as he is affectionately known, is celebrating over 50 years at the Nine television network<br />

this year and over 20 years as presenter of the Nine News week night bulletin in Melbourne. In 2017, Peter was<br />

awarded the Order of Australia Medal for his services to broadcast media and the wider community. In 2022 he was<br />

crowned the King of Moomba. Join him in a light-hearted and fun reading from P.G. Wodehouse's The Inimitable<br />

Jeeves as we celebrate Australian Reading Hour and share the many experiences in his media career. This event is<br />

jams, fruits, chutneys and relishes using the hot water<br />

Two Women at War:<br />

The Genius of Margaret Bourke<br />

White and Lee Miller<br />

Join photo expert Alwyn Hanson from Alwyns Photo<br />

School Melbourne as he discusses and shows images<br />

from two of History's greatest women Photographers:<br />

Lee Miller and Margaret Bourke-White. Both were<br />

prominent photographers before WW2 Lee Miller with<br />

Vogue and Margaret Bourke White with Life Magazine.<br />

Both served with the US army throughout Europe from<br />

1944-1945, and both saw the war from combat to<br />

the horror of the death camps. Lee Miller with Vogue<br />

documented the US army through France and into<br />

Germany, finally showing her contempt by washing<br />

the mud of Dachau in Hitler's own bath. Margaret<br />

Bourke White was bombed in Moscow, torpedoed in the<br />

Mediterranean, flew with the US Air Force over Germany<br />

and finally to see the end of the Reich in Germany.<br />

Both left us with images of both awe and sadness.<br />
