Spaces fill up quickly so we recommend you book in 

as soon as you can. If you can no longer attend, please 

contact a member of staff or cancel online so it can be 

offered to someone on the waiting list.

can search for the event name or browse by category, 

audience, language or month. Click on the event and 

click the red ‘Register for event’ button on the righthand 

side. Please make sure your details are correct 

as a staff member may need to contact you regarding 

your event.

Contact us by phone or in branch, and a staff member 

will book you in to the event.

Indigenous Literacy Day 

Story Walk 

Walking Storytime 

A Story Walk is a series of signs along a short 

trail in a park or open space. Each sign contains 

a consecutive page of a picture book, so you can 

read or enjoy the book by moving from one sign 

to the next at your own pace. It's a great way to 

enjoy books and fresh air at the same time! We'll 

be celebrating a book by an Indigenous author 

for Indigenous Literacy Day on 6 September. 

The Story Walk will also run during during the 

Whitehorse Heritage Festival, so get out into 

nature and enjoy this beautiful story!

Wear It Purple Day 

The aim of the Rainbow Shoelace Project is to show 

support to the LGBTQIA+ community by wearing Pride 

coloured beads on your shoelaces. Members of the 

Rainbow community and their allies are encouraged 

to join in. We're celebrating 'Wear it Purple Day' on 25 

August by providing beads, and will continue throughout 

September or while stocks last. Pick up a free kit at any 

branch and start decorating your shoes!

This is a facilitated writing group led by an 

experienced writing mentor, Jenny Hedley. 

Sessions will include a tutorial with a guest writer 

with disability and will make use of films and other 

resources from Writers Victoria’s Writeability 

Archive. The writing group will be held monthly 

from June to December 2023. 

This is a Creative writing workshop for young 

adults (18-25) living with disability. This includes 

(but isn't limited to) people with sensory or physical 

issues, hidden issues, ongoing medical conditions, 

learning difficulties or mental health conditions. If 

you self-identify as a person with disability, or as 

someone who experiences barriers as a result of 

your condition, then this opportunity is for you.

Mental Health Week 

Discover how writing can help distance you from

Saving Family Images 

and Recordings 

Analogue to Digital 

How can we preserve images of yesteryear using 

today's technologies? This session will explain and 

demonstrate transferring of audio and videos tapes 

to digital format, as well as how to scan photographs, 

slides and negatives utilizing equipment from our 

Digital Room.

Digital Room: 

Self-serve suite 

Our Digital Room is available to use for free to 

digitise your own family slides, photos, negatives, 

VHS and audio cassettes. You may also book the 

room to use the VCR/TV for viewing VHS tape prior 

to potential digitisation. Digital Room bookings are 

for 2-hrs. 

Prerequisite: Attendance of an Analogue to Digital 

teaching session, see separate event entry. 

Registration: Register your interest online. Doncaster 

staff will contact you to finalise an appointment day/ 

time.

with Dr Melinda Jackson 

Dr Melinda Jackson is a Senior Lecturer in the Turner 

Institute for Brain and Mental Health, School of 

Psychological Sciences at Monash University and 

an expert in sleep education. Join us at Doncaster 

library for an informative talk from Melinda about the 

benefits of a good night's sleep, with a focus on sleep 

for Seniors. Melinda will discuss what is 'normal' 

sleep, sleep across your lifespan and the impact 

of sleep disturbance on our thinking, wellbeing and 

mental health.

Share seeds with your community at our Seed 

Library. A seed library is where the library lends 

seeds instead of books. Step 1 – “Borrow” seeds 

for free, Step 2 – Plant and tend to your crops, 

Step 3 – Return some seeds from the yield. Donate 

seeds (fruit, vegetables or herbs only) saved from 

your garden or leftover seeds from store purchased 

packets.
