FROM THE MANAGER
IAN EVATT
GOOD AFTERNOON AND WELCOME BACK TO THE UNIVERSITY OF BOLTON
STADIUM AS WE RETURN TO SKY BET LEAGUE ONE ACTION FOLLOWING THE
MIDWEEK PAPA JOHNS TROPHY SEMI-FINAL AT ACCRINGTON STANLEY.
I write these notes shortly after
the win at the Wham Stadium
where it is fair to say we were all
ecstatic at progressing to the final.
Almost 3,000 supporters
backed us there and more than
a thousand of you were at the
UniBol to watch us in the fan
park with so many also watching
on Sky Sports. Your support
has been immense all season
and the passion you showed
throughout was phenomenal.
I am so pleased for you all as I
know how much it means to our
club to play at Wembley in a final,
especially 100 years after making
its first appearance at the national
stadium.
Although they were a man down
early on, we kept on doing the
right things and knew they’d
fatigue, and we eventually got our
rewards.
I was fortunate enough to play
at Wembley a number of times
during my playing career and its
a fantastic memory and one that
stays with you and your family. I am
pleased that my players will now
get to experience that and make
history.
The final in just over a month’s
time against Plymouth Argyle
will be a good advert for the
competition with two very
strong League One teams
going head to head in a
packed out Wembley.
For all the euphoria,
we must now turn our
attention back to the
league and a warm welcome
to Darrell Clarke, his staff and
players, the directors and fans
of Port Vale to the University of
Bolton Stadium.
They are a very good side who
have made a successful transition
to League One folowing their
promotion last season.
As excited as we are following
Wednesday evening we will remain
grounded and our complete
attention remains on the League.
We are in a great position and
have a solid base to carry on the
prgoress we are making.
The defeat at Wycombe Wanderers
last weekend was disappointing,
especially coming off the back
of two tremendous results and
performances, but today gives us
the opportunity to get our League
form back on track, boosted by the
midweek win.
It was a difficult game at Adams
Park. In the first 20 minutes we
started really brightly and had the
better of the early chances and hit
the underside of the bar. If we had
gone 1-0 up it would probably have
been a little bit of a different game.
We had the wind against us and
didn’t manage the conditions well
enough for the last 20 minutes of
the first half.
A draw would probably have been
a fair result, because I believe that
we didn’t deserve to lose.
Enjoy the game and thank you for
your amazing support.
Ian.
Shola Shoretire
Wanderers remarkably registered back-to-back 5-0
victories with another fantastic showing at the University of
Bolton Stadium to move up to third in Sky Bet League One.
Ricardo Almeida Santos started off the scoring with a
fantastic header to make it three goals in two matches for
the big defender and Luke Mbete scored his first goal for the
club on his first home start to put Wanderers well and truly in
the driving seat.
Gethin Jones latched onto Kyle Dempsey’s pull-back to fire
a first-time shot into the bottom corner past Jamie Cumming
via a slight deflection off Daniel Harvie to send Wanderers
into the break three goals up.
Eoin Toal fired in a fourth just after the hour mark after the
Dons failed to clear Aaron Morley’s corner, with substitute
Randell Williams producing a fantastic first touch and
showing great composure to find the bottom corner deep
into added time to add a fifth goal to the scoresheet.
KNOW?
Port Vale are one of the few English
league clubs not to be named after
a city or town. The name Port Vale
exists on maps pre–dating the
1876 formation of the club and is a
reference to a valley of ports on the
Trent and Mersey Canal, associated
with the city’s pottery industry.
THE SPINE OF THE TEAM
GOALKEEPER | JACK STEVENS
AGE: 25 | ON LOAN FROM OXFORD UNITED
Currently on loan from fellow League One side Oxford United, Stevens
has been the first choice stopper for the Valiants for the majority of the
season to date and at the time of writing has made 27 appearances and
kept 8 clean sheets.
Coming through the youth ranks at Oxford United, he made his senior
debut in 2017/18 during a loan spell with Oxford City and made his debut
for United in a 2-1 home victory against Charlton Athletic in April 2019. To
date for his parent club, he has made 75 appearances.
CENTRE BACK | NATHAN SMITH
AGE: 26 | PREVIOUS CLUB: N/A (ACADEMY GRADUATE)
An experienced member of the Port Vale squad, Smith has racked
up well over 300 appearances for the club after coming through the
club’s youth system. The central defender made his professional
debut during a loan spell at Torquay United in the National League in
2015/16, and he made his first Vale appearance in a goalless draw at
Bradford City in August 2016.
At the time of writing, this season he has made 36 appearances (3
goals) for Darrell Clarke’s side and in total for the football club, he
has made 338 appearances (20 goals).
CENTRE MIDFIELDER | TOM CONLON
AGE: 27 | PREVIOUS CLUB: STEVENAGE
Conlon has been a key player for the Valiants since his arrival from Stevenage in 2018,
and helped the club to promotion from League Two last term – although injuries meant
that he only made 23 appearances (4 goals).
Born in Stoke-on-Trent, the midfielder spent 9 years in the youth system with Vale’s Cityrivals,
Stoke City before signing professional terms with Peterborough United. Making his
debut for the Posh in November 2013, Conlon mad a handful of appearances before a
permanent switch to Stevenage in January 2015 after a successful loan stint with the club.
From there, he spent three-and-a-half years at Broadhall Way and made 71 appearances
(2 goals) before a return to Staffordshire to sign for Port Vale. To date for the Valiants, he
has made a total of 168 appearances (19 goals).
STRIKER | ELLIS HARRISON
AGE: 29 | PREVIOUS CLUB: FLEETWOOD TOWN
A potent goal threat for Vale, Harrison is due a return from injury and could feature against
Wanderers this evening.
The former Wales U21 international came through the ranks at Bristol Rovers to
make his professional debut in April 2011 and went onto work with Darrell Clarke
at the Memorial Stadium following the latter’s arrival at the club in March 2014.
Scoring 49 goals in 204 appearances for Rovers, Harrison signed for Ipswich
Town in July 2018 for a £750,000 fee but spent just a season at Portman Road before
signing for Portsmouth. After two-and-a-half years at Fratton Park, he had a spell with
Fleetwood Town before his move to Vale Park in August.
THE BOSS…
Guiding Port Vale to promotion from League Two in his first full season
at Port Vale, Clarke will be hoping to establish the Valiants in the third
tier this campaign after a five-season absence from the level.
Born in Mansfield, Clarke came through the youth ranks at Mansfield
Town during his playing days and spent six years in the senior setup
(1995-2001) before spending similar amounts of time with Hartlepool
United and Salisbury City. Becoming player-manager with the latter in
2010, he produced a win-rate of over 50% and earned a move to Bristol
Rovers in March 2014.
Managing close to 250 matches during his time with the Gas, Clarke
left the club in December 2018 and by May 2019 he was back in
management with Walsall. In the West Midlands for just shy of two years,
he secured a switch to Port Vale in February 2021.
MARLAND’S
MUSINGS
WANDERERS
MATTERS WITH
CLUB HISTORIAN
SIMON MARLAND…
THE LADS OF ‘23
Having seen off Norwich City and
Leeds United in previous rounds,
fate decreed that the Wanderers
would visit fellow First Division
side Huddersfield Town in the
Third round, a tie that took place
on 24th February 1923.
The Terriers, who were cup
holders, were a massive club and
were to go on and win a hat trick
of Championships in 1924, 1925
and 1926. The Trotters however
were in good form, having lost just
once in the eight games played
to date in 1923, a 1-0 reverse at
Cardiff City.
Leeds Road was a mud bath with
the ball becoming a dead weight,
but Bolton played some good
football considering the conditions
and were rewarded when David
Jack (pictured) gave them a first
half lead. Huddersfield had more
of the play after the interval, but
Bolton’s task was made much
harder when Walter Rowley,
(pictured) a future Bolton manager,
was sent off ten minutes into the
half.
Ernie Islip equalised for the
home side and the Wanderers
defence fought heroically to
earn a replay the following
Wednesday afternoon. A large
crowd welcomed the team back to
Trinity Street at eight o’clock that
Saturday night, whilst there was to
be a half day holiday in the mills
and engineering firms in the town
announced a cessation of work
for Wednesday afternoon to allow
workers to attend the game.
Bolton prepared by attending
the brine baths at Northwich and
a crowd of 61,609 attended the
replay at Burnden Park. They
gave Bolton a massive ovation as
they entered the field, the game
starting at a furious pace with the
left-wing combination of Joe Smith
and Ted Vizard causing problems
for the visitors.
What turned out to be the only
goal of the game came in the 53rd
minute. Vizard skipped past two
defenders, centred to Jack who
was inside the penalty area, he hit
the ball first time low into the net to
send the crowd wild with delight.
Bolton were the last team from
Lancashire to still be in the
competition and the quarter final
draw sent them to face giant killers
Charlton Athletic of the Third
Division South.
ONE YEAR ON
FROM INVASION
A MESSAGE OF THANKS AND A NEED FOR
SUPPORT TO ASSIST THE PEOPLE OF UKRAINE.
Today we welcome as our guests
to the game people from Ukraine
being supported by the work
of the Bolton Ukrainian Cultural
Centre. Here is a message from
Yaroslaw Tymchyshyn, Chair
Bolton Branch of the Association
of Ukrainians in Great Britain.
The morning of Thursday 24th
of February 2022 at 4.00am
Ukrainian time, 2.00am UK time,
a full-scale invasion of Ukraine
began. The Russian army invaded
from the north through Belarus,
from the east from the occupied
Donbas and from the south from
Crimea.
Since then, with the assistance
of the UK, the USA and other
countries, the heroism of the
Ukrainian military has rewritten
the book on armed combat. The
under estimation of the fighting
spirit of the Ukrainian nation by the
Russians is plain to see.
Ukrainians throughout the world
united together in supporting
the land of their forefathers. The
support and assistance from
governments and the general
public has been immeasurable.
The opening of homes throughout
the UK to Ukrainians seeking
shelter, a comforting shoulder to
rely upon, safety and now even
more so, warmth and a bed to
sleep without the possibility of
being hit by a rocket is one of the
greatest acts of humanity one can
imagine.
President Zelenskyy has been a
beacon for the Ukrainian people.
He has been described as the
Ukrainian Churchill and will be
remembered for one phrase at the
beginning of the invasion, ‘I need
ammunition, not a ride’.
The Russians came to wipe
Ukraine and Ukrainians off the face
of the earth but gave Ukrainians
unity. They came to take Ukrainian
lands but only buried their army.
They came to turn to the past but
only gave Ukrainians the future.
As branch chair of the Association
of Ukrainians in GB here in Bolton,
may I thank the Wanderers, the
local town council & their staff and
more importantly, the people of
Bolton for their unstinting support.
The situation in Ukraine is grim
with limited supply of gas and
electricity. Support is still needed.
Any financial support is most
welcome. Donations can be sent
to the Ukrainian Cultural Centre on
Castle St with cheques payable to
AUGB Bolton.
#28 LUKE
MBETE
20 | The Wanderer 01204 328 888

STARTING LIFE AT A NEW CLUB WITH SUCCESSIVE 5-0 WINS AND
A FIRST CAREER GOAL MIGHT BE A TOUGH ACT TO FOLLOW.
But Luke Mbete hopes the best
is still to come with Wanderers as
he aims to build on a flying start at
the University of Bolton Stadium.
Mbete’s debut for the Whites
following his January loan signing
from Manchester City came in the
historic victory at Peterborough
United which marked Wanderers’
5000th league game in style.
Remarkably, he followed that
up with a similar 5-0 scoreline
against MK Dons, when he also
headed home the first goal of his
professional career on his first
home appearance for the Whites.
It was, briefly at least, too good
to last as Ian Evatt’s men saw
their winning League One run
end at Wycombe Wanderers last
weekend when Mbete and their
defences were finally breached in
a 1-0 loss.
But with 15 games left to continue
the pursuit of a top-six place,
Mbete is confident of bouncing
back and building towards what
could still be a bigger high by the
end of the campaign.
“It was a great way to start,” said
the young central defender, who
slotted seamlessly into Wanderers’
back line following a combination
of injury to George Johnston,
Conor Bradley’s suspension and
the January sale of Will Aimson.
“Two 5-0 wins a first goal – not
bad. But we look forward now.
There are always going to be
bumps in the road, like last week,
but we’ve got to stay positive and
stay together as a team.
“All the games we’ve got left are
very important and we’re going
to go into each and every one of
them with a positive mindset.
“Back home today our fans are
going to be behind us and help us
again. We are a good group and
hopefully we get to where we want
to get to at the end of the season.”
Collectively that would be taking
a promotion challenge all the
I LOVE
THE CLUB
ALREADY TO
BE HONEST
AND I’M
JUST
EXCITED TO
HELP THE
TEAM AS
MUCH AS I
CAN.
way, while Mbete has a personal
opportunity to add more senior
appearances to a CV currently
showing a taste of first-team action
at City – including an outing in the
Champions League – and half-adozen
Championship games at
Huddersfield Town.
“That’s what I aspire to do. With
the games comes experience,
which is something I need and
it’s something I look forward
to,” added the England U21
international.
At Wanderers, Mbete has already
matched the number of league
starts he made with Huddersfield
Town when a loan spell in the first
half of the current campaign didn’t
live up to expectations.
Nonetheless, Mbete still looks
back on his time in West Yorkshire
as a beneficial one on his career
path.
www.bwfc.co.uk
The Wanderer | 21

“Even my time at Huddersfield was
a blessing in disguise,” said the
19-year-old. “I learned a lot and it
made me stronger as a person.
“But I’m happy to be here and
happy to move forward with the
team.
“I’ve enjoyed it a lot. Everyone
has really welcomed me, which has
made me feel comfortable
and made me enjoy my football
more.”
Mature beyond his years on the
pitch as a physically strong, ballplaying,
left-sided central defender,
Mbete has certainly settled in well
with Wanderers.
Quickly looking at home in his
new environment, he is part of
the success story the Whites are
enjoying in their recruitment of
young players on loan from the
powerhouse clubs of the North-
West and some of the best in this
country and beyond.
“I think it’s good for players like me,
Shola and Traff, and Conor as well,”
added Mbete.
“We’re all young players, so we can
learn from the guys in the changing
room with experience and we can
add to our game from that.”
City team-mate James Trafford
goes into today’s game against
Port Vale having not conceded a
goal in nine home games.
Liverpool wing-back Conor Bradley
has also played a large part in
that miserly run, while exciting
Manchester United teenager Shola
Shoretire is another who is making
the most of a mutually beneficial
stay with the Whites.
“When you’re at a club you’ve
got to love the club as much as
everybody else does,” insisted
Mbete.
“And I love the club already to be
honest and I’m just excited to help
the team as much as I can.”
It’s a beautiful thing to hear,
although Mbete can be excused a
second love interest.
As a Manchester City player he
also has on-going allegiances with
the defending Premier League
champions.
After coming through City’s
Academy ranks – having started
out in Brentford’s youth system –
he helped City win the FA Youth
Cup in 2020 before advancing
through the U21s to appear in three
separate cup competitions for Pep
Guardiola’s senior side last season.
And while his own focus is on
helping Wanderers try and finish
the season on a high, he also
hopes to see more silverware
make its way to the Etihad Stadium.
“I send City my love,” Mbete
added. “I’m always watching them
and I hope they get what they want
and what they deserve at the end
of the season.”
Much to look forward to indeed.
STARS VISIT
COMMUNITY
CENTRE
HANDOVER
Ricardo Almeida Santos and
Gethin Jones visited The Sutton
Community Centre in Platt Hill
to meet with local residents and
mark the centre’s handover from
Clarion Housing Group to Bolton
Wanderers in the Community
(BWitC).
The Bolton Wanderers players took
time out of their busy schedules to
visit the community centre in Bolton,
where Clarion owns and manages
hundreds of homes, which plays host
to a variety of activities and support
delivered by BWitC.
BWitC’s mission is to use the power
of Bolton Wanderers Football Club
to inspire and support local people,
delivering interventions and targeted
engagement to help transform lives,
enabling communities to thrive and
succeed.
Programmes delivered locally target
people as young as five years old in
schools, all the way through to 90+
as part of active ageing programmes.
BWitC’s main areas of work include
cohesion, disability, employability,
mentoring, social inclusion, schools
and wellbeing.
Now with the community centre as its
hub and funding provided by Clarion
Futures, the charitable foundation
of Clarion Housing Group, BWitC is
delivering a wide range of projects
tailored to the needs of the local
community.
One such project is a new youth club
open on Friday evenings for local
residents aged 12-17, providing a safe
space for young people to come and
make new friends and help them
feel a sense of belonging, as well as
opportunities to take part in social
action projects within the community.
The aim is for the new programme
to help young people living locally
to develop life skills, as well as
accessing volunteering, leadership
and employment opportunities.
The centre also acts as a warm space
through its Community Hub offer,
opening its doors and welcoming
people to take part in activities and
keep warm, enabling them to save
money on their energy bills. The
Community Hub runs on Tuesdays
from 10:30am-1pm and Wednesdays
from 3-7:30pm until the end of March,
with sessions targeting different age
groups.
Richard Slater, Bolton Wanderers in
the Community Impact Manager, said:
“We are delighted to be partnering
with Clarion Futures to provide
positive activities and engagement
to the residents and local community
around the Sutton Estate. We have
worked with Clarion Futures for
several years through our outreach
projects and now managing the
community centre is the next step in
working together to support the local
community to thrive.
Ricardo Almeida Santos, Club
Captain at Bolton Wanderers Football
Club said:
“I’ve really enjoyed coming down to
the community centre today to find
out more about the work that Bolton
Wanderers in the Community is
delivering and hearing the plans for
how the centre will be used to benefit
the community. It’s important for us as
players to support the work our club
carries out in the community, and I’m
delighted to help mark the handover
of the centre.
Matt Parsonage, Head of
Communities for Clarion Futures,
said:
“Partnerships with organisations like
Bolton Wanderers in the Community
are so important for our work in
communities nationwide, helping
us to make a bigger difference by
teaming up to achieve shared goals.
Now with the community centre in
Platt Hill as their home, we hope that
BWitC’s work will go from strength to
strength, providing support to local
residents and focusing their efforts
where they’re needed most in these
difficult times.”
today and aims to showcase the
good work being done by clubs
to improve accessibility and
inclusion for disabled fans.
Bolton Wanderers fully supports
the campaign and are getting
involved by helping disabled
supporters learn about Level
Playing Field (LPF) and understand
what the charity does, what its aims
are to improve accessibility and
inclusion, and how they can assist
disabled fans.
Today we delighted to be joined by
Steve Evans an LPF Trustee who
will be catching up with a number
of our disabled fans including
Morgan Parry who is an LPF
Ambassador.
Over the campaign a video will
be released that focuses upon
disabled supporters from three
clubs in the EFL, including our own
club with an in-depth interview of
Jack Storey and his family.
In recent months we have had
a full LFP audit of our club and
the very detailed report gives us
a great guide into how we can
continually improve our facilities for
our disabled supporters.
To take this work forward a
working party has been formed
brining together members of the
Bolton Wanderers Supporters
Trust, Bolton Wanderers Disabled
Supporters Association, Bolton
Wanderers in the Community,
disabled fans and key staff
members in the Club.
A major focus will be on creating
a full changing places facility
designed to be completely
accessible providing sufficient
space and equipment for people
who are not able to use the toilet
independently. The plan is for this
facility to be available throughout
the week to the public as well as a
match day.
Over the coming months further
improvements are planned for
the accessible toilets, stadium
loop system, quite room and
appropriate design changes of
existing areas to create better
accessibility in a variety of ways.
You can support this work by
adding a donation to the cause
when purchasing your season
ticket for 23/24.
We are looking to work together as
one club, one community one town
and unite for access and support
the great work of Level Playing
Field that is there to support
disabled sports fans through its
membership and a variety of active
initiatives.
Playing Field visit
MEMORABLE MATCHES
SEASON 2022/23 MARKS THE 25TH
ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF
BOLTON STADIUM.
Friday 26th December 2014
Bolton Wanderers 2
Blackburn Rovers 1
Sky Bet Championship
The Wanderers overturned a first
half deficit to run out 2-1 winners
in a holiday derby at the Macron
Stadium.
Rovers had much the better of the
first half and Bolton had ‘keeper
Andy Lonergan to thank with a
couple of saves to deny both Andy
Rhodes and Ben Marshall. The
visitors made a breakthrough four
minutes from the interval when
Josh King broke clear to round
Lonergan before slotting home.
At half time Neil Lennon brought
on Emile Heskey, signed two days
earlier after a stint in Austrailia
with Newcastle Jets, the 37 year
old wasting no time to make his
mark. His debut goal came on the
hour mark when Eidur Gudjohnsen
found him at the far post and the
former England striker slotted
home to level matters. (Pictured)
Three minutes later Bolton got
their noses in front when Dorian
Dervite’s knock down fell into
the path of Darren Pratley who
grabbed his second goal in as
many games.
As the game wore on Rovers
gained the initaitive as they
searched for an equaliser but the
Bolton defence was not for being
breached as they dented their
visitors promotion hopes.
Team: Lonergan, Vela, Mills,
Dervite, Ream, Danns, Pratley, Hall,
(Heskey), Lee, Feeney, (Wheater),
Gudjohnsen, (Trotter). Subs not
used: Bogdan, Moxey, Spearing,
Wigan Athletic 0
FA Cup Third Round
The Wanderers had worried if
Chung-Yong Lee’s absence at
the Asia Cup would leave them
without a spark in this Third
THROUGHOUT THE SEASON CLUB
HISTORIAN SIMON MARLAND WILL LOOK
BACK AT SOME MEMORABLE GAMES.
Round FA Cup tie. Up stepped 19
year old Zach Clough for his debut
and all doubts were aleviated
inside the opening half an hour.
He continually ran at the Wigan
back four who had former
Wanderers favourite Ali Al Habsi to
thank for keeping the scoresheet
blank. Not only did he deny Clough
he also twice produced sterling
saves from Liam Trotter.
Wigan rallied after the interval but
Adam Bogdan, back in the side
for the first time since August, was
also in fine form.
The defining moment came in the
76th minute when Trotter released
an inch perfect pass and Clough
ran through to clip the ball over
the advancing Al Habsi. (Pictured)
The stadium erupted in celebration
and the young debutant
received a standing ovation two
minutes from time when he was
replaced by the evergreen Eidur
Gudjohnsen as the 2013 winners
of the competition couldn’t find a
response.
Wednesday 4th February 2015
Bolton Wanderers 1
Liverpool 2
FA Cup Fourth Round Replay
The Wanderers were just four
minutes away from producing
another White Hot night similar
to 1993 when they knocked
Liverpool out of the FA Cup.
Unfortunately on this occasion
they couldn’t hold on to a lead but
it wasn’t for the lack of trying. Neil
Lennon’s lack of options, due to
injuries, saw Matt Mills drafted in
as emergency striker and, in the
58th minute, his header fell to Zach
Clough who was felled by Martin
Skrtel.
The official, Roger East, hesitated,
then pointed to the spot and up
stepped Eidur Gudjohnsen as cool
as you like to stroke the ball past
‘keeper Simon Mignolet.
Eight minutes later Bolton’s task
was made harder. Neil Danns
received a second yellow for a
late challenge on Joe Allen but,
despite this, they continued on
the front foot with both Clough
and Gudjohnsen going close. The
game was so open and David
Wheater managed to deflect a
Jordan Henderson shot onto his
own post.
Finally Liverpool got it right and
Henderson found Raheem Sterling
who drilled a ball into the bottom
corner for the equaliser. The fourth
official showed five minutes of
added time, enough for Phillipe
Coutinho to send a cuurling shot
into the top corner for the winner,
the home support leaving rightly
proud of the team that had come
so close to causing an upset.
You Asked, We Delivered - We
are pleased to have been able to
help when asked by the Darlington
family to request that the club allow
young fans 14+ to attend events
such as the End of Season Dinner.
The question was put to CEO Neil
Hart at our recent AGM and he
was more than happy to agree to
this. Previously, these events had
been for over 18s only and we
had always thought it was a real
shame that our young fans aren’t
able to take part in these fantastic
celebratory events. Well now they
can and we look forward to these
special occasions becoming much
more of a family affair.
Trust Family Season Ticket - It
has been such a great pleasure in
the last couple of seasons to have
seen new fans attend games at
the University of Bolton Stadium
and get a taste of what it means to
sit in the stands and watch Bolton
Wanderers in action. The latest
recipients of the Family Ticket,
courtesy of Bernstein’s Kitchens,
are the Halliwell family and they
certainly saw a cracker of a game
with a 5-0 win over MK Dons!
Getting more new young people
to attend games and become
life-long fans is a big ambition of
the Supporters’ Trust and hopefully
this emphatic win and fantastic
performance will have done the
trick. You never forget your first
game and this one will have
certainly made an impression and
will live long in the memory. Mum
Kathryn said: “First game ever and
we all loved it. 5-0! Thanks to the
Supporters’ Trust!”
A big thank you to our great
friend, the Legend that is Jack
Dearden - It was an emotional
night as we marked Jack’s 25
years covering Bolton Wanderers
for BBC Radio Manchester with a
presentation at our recent AGM.
Jack’s support for the Trust has
been fantastic from the very first
meeting back in 2016 when we
had a full house in the Premier
Suite following which 6000 signed
up for the Supporters’ Trust. He has
hosted every event since and we
are so very grateful for all he has
done to assist us over the years.
Wanderers secured a place in the Papa Johns Trophy
final and a trip to Wembley with victory against
Accrington Stanley at the Wham Stadium.
Backed by over half of the attendance on the night, Ian
Evatt’s men secured a return to the national stadium
after a 12-year absence, but they were made to work
hard for the result.
Stanley were reduced to ten-men when Sean
McConville was given his marching orders for a
rash challenge on Conor Bradley and even though
Wanderers were left frustrated by a combination of the
woodwork and Lukas Jensen, Elias Kachunga found the
breakthrough late on.
Two minutes later, Morley fired in an excellent strike
from 25 yards out that found the net via the inside
of the post to ensure a passage through to the final
against Plymouth Argyle in April.
‘LOVE FOOTBALL. PROTECT THE GAME’
A message about anti-social and criminal behaviour
To mark the new season, we want to
make you aware of new measures
being taken across all of football
to ensure everyone can have a safe
and enjoyable experience. We are
supporting strong action from the
FA, Premier League and EFL to tackle
anti-social and criminal behaviours
that put all of us at risk.
This reflects the seriousness of
the risks to fans and staff – pyros
can burn at 2000 degrees Celsius
and cause lifechanging injuries,
while entering the pitch endangers
players, managers and match
officials.
We know those who commit these
illegal acts do not represent the
majority of supporters.
