Have a ball across Pittwater
It’s that time of year: a morning chill in
the air, the smell of sausage sizzle and the
sound of studs on concrete. Footy is back.
And footy. And more footy. Plus of course,
netball.
Registrations and grading are well underway,
but it’s never too late to get involved
and Pittwater has a wealth of options for all
ages, gender and sports.
Soccer – Pittwater RSL FC play at Kitchener
Park in Mona Vale; Avalon FC play at Careel
Bay; and Narrabeen FC play at Warriewood.
Registrations for most soccer clubs range
from around $200 for the under-6s up to
$350 for men’s football, but that does cover a
whole season and kit. Teams range from U-6s
through to U-18s, Senior Men’s and Over-45s.
Pre-season training starts early March.
Netball – Packing the courts at Curl Curl
Saturday mornings and creating a noise a jet
engine would be proud of, will be hundreds
of girls and women competing in the Manly
Warringah Netball League. Teams come from
all over the Beaches, but Mona Vale Commodores
(pictured), Pittwater Peninsula,
Narrabeen and Newport are four clubs on
Pittwater that are always looking for players.
Rugby Union – For fans of the Waratahs
and Wallabies, there are plenty of options
to scrum down this Winter. Pittwater Rugby
incorporating Pittwater Dolphins train at
Narrabeen Sports High, while the Narrabeen
Tigers are nearby. Newport Rugby
Club including Newport Breakers play their
games at the north end of Newport Beach,
and Warringah Rugby Club are home to the
Warringah Rats.
Rugby League – Players and supporters
who prefer the league game will be aware
the Manly Sea Eagles kick off their season
against the Bulldogs on Saturday 4 March.
But for a more grass roots game there are
the Avalon Bulldogs, Mona Vale Raiders and
the Narrabeen Sharks. All have A-Grade,
Junior and Masters teams.
AFL – There are male and female teams
at the Pittwater Tigers who play at North
Narrabeen. The team have been highly successful
at producing players for the national
women’s league and popularity in the sport
is growing quickly for both sexes.

Stand-up
comedy show
Pittwater RSL is the venue for
an Australian Comedy Festival
Show on Saturday March 18
commencing 8pm. It’s a twohour
professional stand-up
comedy show; the comedians to
appear have been handpicked
from Sydney’s hottest and most
talented, headlining comedians
on the circuit: Steve Hoskins,
Mick Meredith, Simon Kennedy,
Julia Wilson, Al del Bene. Steve
says; “What makes our show
so unique and popular, is that
every show is different and we
only choose the best, leading
comedians that appeal to a wide
