2 The Messenger/Annual Report Issue
Ronald Rider
Board Chairman,
Phoebe Ministries
Governing Board
Iam very pleased to present to you this Annual
Report issue of “The Messenger.” Dedicated
volunteers, caregivers and leadership staff have
worked together over the past five years on
strengthening every aspect of Phoebe
Ministries. Guided by a strategic vision calling
for our focus on improving business practices
and reinvestment in our facilities, we have
worked to ensure that Phoebe’s ministry is
secure for the future.
On the pages of this report, we celebrate the
success of our strategic plan, as well as the many
gifts that have helped us achieve the challenging
goals we have undertaken.
Our donors and volunteers are especially
vital to the fulfillment of our charitable mission
and the quality of life of those we serve.
We are indeed thankful for the generosity of
spirit that abounds in the community!
LPN Training Program, continued
students to the many career opportunities in long-term
care and potentially lead many of them to choose
Phoebe as their employer.
Diane Lewis, Asst. Director of Continuing Education
If asked, most donors will tell you they are
pleased to make a gift and that giving is important
to them. As you will see within this report,
our donors have made gifts that are personally
significant and have lasting value for our residents,
staff and communities.
The talents of countless volunteers, who
together give well over 50,000 hours of service
annually, also bless the lives of our residents. Our
volunteers come from all walks of life and span
all ages. They fill many roles. Some provide care
directly to residents, while others choose to
serve indirectly in support of our ministry.
No matter what form, your gifts honor our
legacy and help Phoebe continue to make a difference
in the lives of older adults. We depend
on your generosity to carry out our vision for
the future. For this, our gratitude knows no
bounds. ■
William J. Davies Named Interim President/CEO
William J. Davies, formerly
Executive Vice President/Chief
Operating Officer, has been named
Interim President/CEO of Phoebe
Ministries.
Davies has played an integral role
in uncovering revenue enhancements,
such as strengthening Phoebe’s Medicaid
Case Mix for higher reimbursement
levels, marketing rehabilitative
services and expanding the potential
of Phoebe Services Pharmacy.
He has a passionate commitment
to upholding Phoebe’s legacy of care,
recognizing that there is not one universal
care plan for the later stages of
older adulthood. His vision calls for
focusing on a continuum of care. By
offering home-based care, independent
living, assisted living, dementia
care and skilled care, Phoebe will provide
a host of services that can be
accessed from any point on the continuum.
A Phoebe employee since 1997,
Davies was hired as Director of
Therapy Services for Phoebe Berks
Health Care Center, Wernersville. He
has also served as Vice President of
Support Services, a position in which
he was responsible for pharmacy
operations, rehabilitation services,
home health care, ancillary services
and contracts for food and environmental
services.
A Wyomissing resident, Davies has
more than 30 years of experience in
creating and managing diverse, progressive
hospital and community medical
programs. Before his affiliation
with Phoebe, he
was employed by
Saint Joseph
Medical Center,
Reading. During his tenure there, he
held the positions of Department
Head of Physical Therapy, Administrative
Director of Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation, and Executive Director
of Ambulatory Services.
A licensed physical therapist,
Davies received a bachelor’s degree in
health and physical education from
East Stroudsburg University, and a certificate
in physical therapy from the
University of Pennsylvania.
Davies succeeds Rev. Rodney W.
Wells, who left Phoebe Ministries on
Oct. 8. ■
at Penn State Lehigh Valley, views the partnership to be
of great value and notes the “importance of education
that can be seen throughout the Phoebe organization,
which reinforces the benefit of lifelong learning.” ■
