written first in the Lawh al-Mahfudh [1] . It is the Basmala that

descended to Hazrat Adam (alaihi-salam) first. Muslims will pass

with the help of the Basmala. The Basmala is the

signature on the invitation to Paradise.

Here is the meaning of the Basmala: “I am able to write this

book with the aid of Allahu Taala who has been kind to all beings

by creating them, by keeping them in existence and by protecting

them against annihilation. The arifs [3] knew Him as the ilah. Beings

[1] The Lawh al-Mahfudh is where the decree of Allahu Taala was

recorded in the Seventh Heaven, before the creation of all else. This

written destiny never changes and encompasses everything that will

be. Angels learn from the Lawh al-mahfudh.

[2] The hair-thin bridge which every person must pass to enter Paradise.

[3] Great scholars who comprehended through their hearts the

knowledge about Allahu Taala and His Attributes. For one to be an

arif, it is necessary to make progress and be promoted in a path of

Tasawwuf (purifying the heart, spiritual development).
