Qur’ân,zthosezwhozholdzthatzbeliefzarezstillzMu’mins,zMuslims.zBut
theyzarezBid’ateholders (heretics).zIfztheirzdeviationzinvolveszmatters
declaredz clearly,z suchz misbelieversz losez theirz îmânz andz become
disbelievers.zThey,zandzalsozthosezwhozbelievezasztheyzdo,zarezcalled
Mulhids.z Theirz thinkingz ofz themselvesz asz Muslimsz andz declaring
thatz theyz arez onz thez rightz wayz willz notz absolvez themz fromz being
disbelievers.zItziszwrittenzinzallzthezbookszofzfiqh,zandzespeciallyzin
Ibniz ’Âbidîn,z underz thez chaptersz dealingz withz iman:z “Itz hasz been
unanimouslyzsaidz(byzsavants)zthatzifzazpersonzdisbelieveszinzonezof

personz whoz disbelievesz inz thez tormentz inz thez gravez andz inz the
shafâ’atz(intercession)zthatzwillztakezplacezinztheznextzworldziszeither
az hereticalz Muslimz whoz isz Ahl-ie bid’at,z orz az disbelieverz whoz isz a
religionzreformer.zAzreligonereformer thinkszofzhimselfzaszazMuslim,
