The Council has received an application<br />
to temporarily close the following road<br />
for the period shown for the Bridge to<br />
Bridge event.<br />

from Williams Street to Bowler Street.<br />
Period of Closure<br />
From 7am Saturday 17 June to<br />
6pm Sunday 18 June <strong>2023</strong>.<br />
Detours will be in place.<br />

Rangiora Museum<br />
On Thursday, <strong>May</strong> 25, former<br />
Waimakariri <strong>May</strong>or David Ayers,<br />
and John Hawker, former<br />
principal of Ashgrove School,<br />
will tell and show agreat story of<br />
their memories of the 1953 flood<br />
at Waikuku. There will be ashort<br />
AGM beforehand. The meeting<br />
will be held at 7.30pm at the<br />
Rangiora Museum, 29 Good<br />
Street, and all are welcome.<br />

SeaThru Bridge to Bridge<br />
Mothers Day Race.<br />
The Cure Boat Club will hold its<br />
SeaThru BridgetoBridge event<br />
on <strong>May</strong> 14 from 10am –12pm. It<br />
will be held on the Kaiapoi and<br />
Waimakariri Rivers.<br />

competinginthe annual<br />
SeaThru 10 Kilometre BridgetoBridge<br />
Race.<br />
Recent raininthe mountains<br />
has boostedthe river levels and<br />
this should make it achallenge<br />
for all the boatscompeting in<br />
the timed race organised by<br />
Kaiapoi'sCure Boating Club.<br />
The race starts with a<br />
staggered start for seeded boats<br />
at 10 am, immediately belowthe<br />
Williams Street Bridgein<br />
Kaiapoi.<br />
From there,competitors in<br />
rowing eights, octuples (boats<br />
with 16 sculling oars),quadsand<br />
fourswill trackdown the<br />
Kaiapoi River to the junction<br />
with the WaimakaririRiver.<br />
Therethey turn right, and<br />
battle against the current<br />
towards the old highwaybridge<br />
past the StewartsGullyYacht<br />
Club.<br />
Turning at amarker boat they<br />
then race downstream to<br />
Brooklands Spit and Kairaki<br />
Beachfor another Uturn.<br />
Competitors then make their<br />
way backagainst the flow to the<br />
Kaiapoi Riverjunction.<br />
They then make the final<br />
sprint back to the finishline at<br />
the Williams Street Bridge in<br />
Kaiapoi.<br />

for over20years.<br />

6080 entries from rowing clubs<br />
throughoutthe region.<br />
‘‘Cure hosts the event as both a<br />
fund raiser and achance to go<br />
racing.<br />
‘‘We are hoping for eight,<br />
eights on the water and as many<br />
quadsand fours as can come.’’<br />
For the second year running<br />
the clubisalso offering aspecial<br />
sailing of the RiverQueen, for<br />
spectators to followthe race<br />
from the water.<br />
The boat follows the racers out<br />
on to the Waimakariri and<br />
returns behind the last boat in.<br />
Bookings are essential.
