This opera was written and first performed in Sydney in 1847. The composer Isaac Nathan migrated to 

Sydney in 1840 and is considered to be the “father of Australian music”. This is rather a family affair, as 

Nathan was the great-great-great-grandfather of Sir Charles Mackerras who arranged the score. 

Alexander Briger, who conducts this performance, is Mackerras’ nephew.

on this CD was composed for the Royal Chapel and he second was written for teaching figured bass.

Boccherini was an accomplished cellist and composed many quintets with two cello parts. The three

Mendelssohn composed his first Piano Trio, Op. 49 in 1839, during a very happy phase in his life and it 

has become one of his most popular chamber works. Six years later, he composed his Trio in C minor 

Op.66 and gave it to his sister Fanny as a birthday present. The Bonnard Trio was founded in 2004 and 

is named after the French painter Pierre Bonnard whose expressionist paintings inspired the musicians.

Joan Sutherland, soprano

Jin Ju was known as an exceptional keyboard talent even prior to her performance for Pope Benedict
