Mikhail Alexandrovich was one of the greatest bel canto singers of the twentieth century. He was<br />

extremely popular in Russia and his recordings were in enormous demand, but he decided to leave the<br />

Soviet Union in 1971. This collection includes works by Bach/Gounod, Mozart, Stradella, Giordani,<br />

Gluck and Rossini.<br />

Requiem<br />

Artyomov has been influenced by many musical cultures, including Russian folklore and the works of<br />

Prokofiev, Stravinsky and Stockhausen, but particularly those of Honegger, Varèse and Berio. His<br />

Requiem is a grandiose Latin Mass dedicated to Russian Martyrs and was premiered in 1988. It was the<br />

first Requiem Mass ever to be broadcast on Moscow State radio and was a triumph for Artyomov.<br />

Prokofiev’s last symphony was awarded the “Grand Prix du Disque” of the Academie Charles Cros.<br />
