Der Revisor – Comic Opera in Five Acts based on a text by Nikolai Gogol
Werner Egk’s comic opera Der Revisor was premiered in 1957. He brilliantly condenses Gogol’s
comedy to create an opera score whose wittiness and acuity is equal to the original in every way. The
work’s basic “Russian” colour is created by harmonic references to Russian Folkloric music. The CD
ROM includes information on the composer and his composition, as well as radio interviews with Egk.
