MENDELSSOHN Bonnard Trio
Piano Trios Op.49, Op.66
Mendelssohn composed his first Piano Trio, Op. 49 in 1839, during a very happy phase in his life and it
has become one of his most popular chamber works. Six years later, he composed his Trio in C minor
Op.66 and gave it to his sister Fanny as a birthday present. The Bonnard Trio was founded in 2004 and
is named after the French painter Pierre Bonnard whose expressionist paintings inspired the musicians.
HUMPERDINCK
Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin
Königskinder
Humperdinck is best known for Hansel and Gretel, but composed a total of fourteen operas and musical
comedies. Six of them are based on fairytales. The central characters of Königskinder are two young
people and a witch, just as in his famous opera but sadly, this work does not have a happy ending. The
libretto was written by Elsa Bernstein-Porges under her alias Ernst Romer in 1894.
Brahms Symphony No.3, Weber Overtures
During the 1950s, Karl Böhm made a handful of orchestral recordings for Decca with the Wiener
Philharmoniker. Brahms’ Symphony No.3 is performed with classical poise and the music is clearly in
the Viennese players’ blood. This recording is the first international release on Decca CD. Böhms’
affectionate readings of Weber’s Overtures now reappear in the catalogue.
