HERO DOGS
Some canines are known for being great companions,
while others, such as these, are prized for their intelligence
and distinctive traits
German Shepherd
In the hands of a skilled trainer, German Shepherds demonstrate
exceptional trainability and obedience. They develop a deep
attachment to their human masters and will follow them into
danger without fear and hesitation. German Shepherds are
highly regarded as military, police and service dogs due to their
intelligence, loyalty and adaptability; these traits also make them
an excellent companion for the visually impaired.
Labs and Golden Retrievers
Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers are exceptional aquatic
search and rescue dogs that excel in tracking and swimming. The
Golden Retriever and Labrador cross-breed produces a successful
guide dog, combining the best qualities of both breeds. Labradors
are also thought to be one of the most smart canines, with a natural
desire to please their masters. This makes them highly trainable,
which is why they are frequently used as aid or service dogs.
Beagle
The beagle, the smallest of the hounds, excels as a tracking dog
due to its ability to sniff at ground level. Beagles are known for
their intelligence, pleasant demeanour and ability to maintain
focus. The small, sociable beagle is a popular choice for police
service, despite the common misconception that police dogs
ought to be huge.
Bloodhound
The Bloodhound’s name is fitting as it has more than 300
million scent receptors. Even its physique is optimised for the
detection of scents. Its massive ears and nostrils allow it to pick
up the faintest odours from great distances. This dog breed has
boundless energy and would gladly go long distances in pursuit
of a scent.
