Young’s case, a sweet tooth, what beckons is boundless joy and<br />

Driven by his love for frozen yoghurt, our cover personality, Tan,<br />

made the decision to venture into something he was not familiar<br />

with after leaving his banking job in Singapore.<br />

Tan is the Chief Executive Officer of the Woodpeckers Group<br />

Sdn Bhd and this dynamic company not only owns TBC (<strong>The</strong><br />

Beginning Chapter) restaurant in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala<br />

Lumpur but is also the master franchisee for llaollao in Malaysia.<br />

Telum Media, a media intelligence platform connecting media<br />

and communications professionals across the Asia Pacific region,<br />

<strong>The</strong> long-awaited anime fest made its triumphant comeback at<br />

<strong>Tropicana</strong> Gardens Mall recently, attracting droves of cosplayers and<br />

fans of animation, comics, and games who came to celebrate the<br />

medium during the three-day festival. Onlookers got to view cosplay<br />

culture in its full glory as many turned up dressed as their favourite<br />

anime character.<br />

A must-attend event for all enthusiasts, the event was held from<br />

29 April to 1 May <strong>2023</strong> at the mall’s Centre Court, CC Floor and<br />

at the <strong>Tropicana</strong> Gardens Mall Convention Centre, Level 3A Floor.<br />

<strong>The</strong> turnout was amazing, as can be viewed by the mall’s car park<br />

numbers which was filled to the brim. Food outlets at the mall were<br />

also kept busy as diners thronged eateries.<br />

Featuring top ACG (“Animation, Comics and Games”) guests,<br />

fans had the chance to meet and greet personalities from the<br />

anime, comics, and gaming world as well as interact with their<br />

favourite artists, voice actors, and industry experts. <strong>The</strong>y also<br />

gained insights into their creative processes.<br />

In addition, there were also artist, cosplayers, and doujin<br />

booths with stunning artwork, handmade crafts, and selfpublished<br />

works on display. Talented artists and cosplayers<br />

matches between the top clubs in Kuala Lumpur, showcasing<br />

Dragons, with their impressive performance, made their mark on<br />

the league table, aiming for a strong finish in the second half.<br />

1. <strong>The</strong> Start of the League: TGCR vs Raintree at TGCR<br />

11 February <strong>2023</strong><br />

<strong>The</strong> league began with an exciting match between TGCR and<br />

defending champions Raintree Club KL. Despite losing 1-4,<br />

TGCR displayed commendable performance, with close calls<br />

and thrilling moments. <strong>The</strong> highlight was the Mixed Doubles<br />

match, where TGCR’s Terence/Angie fought fiercely but<br />

narrowly lost in a nail-biting tiebreaker.<br />

2. A Bit of Excitement at KGNS: KGNS vs TGCR at KGNS<br />

25 February <strong>2023</strong><br />

<strong>The</strong> KGNS match proved to be a turning point for TGCR,<br />

with both teams providing nail-biting finishes. TGCR’s teams<br />

showed resilience, coming back from behind to secure a<br />

remarkable 5-0 victory. <strong>The</strong> Men Open Doubles match was<br />

particularly intense, with TGCR’s Leuk/Jovin showcasing their<br />

experience and winning crucial points.<br />

3. Happy Day for <strong>Tropicana</strong>: TGCR vs SLC at TGCR<br />

18 March <strong>2023</strong><br />

TGCR’s team enjoyed a day of excitement and triumph as<br />

they secured a 5-0 victory against the Sunway Lagoon Club.<br />

<strong>The</strong> matches in the Men Open Doubles, Men 45 Doubles, and<br />

Ladies Doubles categories ended in straight-set wins for<br />

TGCR. <strong>The</strong> Men 55 Doubles match provided heart-stopping<br />

moments as TGCR’s John/Richard secured a thrilling victory<br />

in a tiebreaker.<br />

4. Rain, Rain Go Away: TGCR vs RLC at RLC<br />

19 April <strong>2023</strong><br />

Unfavourable weather conditions disrupted the match against<br />

RLC. Initially called off due to rain, the matches resumed<br />

later in the day after the courts were drained. Despite their<br />

efforts, TGCR suffered a 1-4 defeat, winning only the Men<br />

Open Doubles match. Nevertheless, the team demonstrated<br />

resilience and fought hard throughout the challenging<br />

conditions.

5. A Good Day for the Dragons: TGCR vs RSC at TGCR<br />

13 May <strong>2023</strong><br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Tropicana</strong> Dragons had another successful day, defeating<br />

<strong>The</strong> Royal Selangor Club 4-1. Though they narrowly lost the<br />

Men 55+ Doubles match, TGCR displayed exceptional skills<br />

and determination. <strong>The</strong> Men Open Doubles match stood out<br />

as a high-level contest, with powerful serves and intense<br />

rallies leading to TGCR’s victory.<br />

6. It Was Like Wimbledon: RSGC vs TGCR at RSGC<br />

27 May <strong>2023</strong><br />

Playing on RSGC’s natural grass courts provided a unique<br />

experience for TGCR’s indoor hard court players. Despite<br />

initial expectations of struggling on grass, TGCR fought<br />

valiantly and lost narrowly with a 2-3 scoreline. <strong>The</strong> Men<br />

Open Doubles match witnessed an outstanding performance<br />

from TGCR’s Leuk/Jovin, who pushed their opponents to<br />

their limits.<br />

7. A Strong End to the 1st Half: TGCR vs KSAS at TGCR<br />

10 June <strong>2023</strong><br />

<strong>The</strong> first half of the league concluded on a positive note for<br />

TGCR as they secured a convincing 5-0 victory against KSAS.<br />

<strong>The</strong> highlight of the day was the Men Open Doubles match,<br />

where TGCR’s Leuk/Jovin defeated formidable opponents,<br />

showcasing their skill and dominance. With this win, TGCR<br />

finished the first half of the league in the third spot.<br />

8. Halfway Point Analysis: League Table and Team<br />

Performances<br />

<strong>The</strong> AMG Premier Inter Club Tennis League Kuala Lumpur<br />

<strong>2023</strong> reached its halfway point after seven ties. <strong>The</strong> league,<br />

which started in February <strong>2023</strong>, took nearly four months to<br />

complete. Each team played against the other seven clubs<br />

once, alternating between home and away matches. In the<br />

second half of the league, the teams will face each other<br />

again, but the locations will be reversed. As of 10 June, <strong>2023</strong>,<br />

the <strong>Tropicana</strong> Dragons are currently in the third position on<br />

the league table. With 23 points collected from 35 matches<br />

against the seven clubs, they are just five points away from<br />

the top spot. However, the fourth-place team is also five<br />

points behind. All teams will be striving to earn more points<br />

in order to finish the league in the best possible position.<br />

<strong>The</strong> yoghurt, which is made from skimmed<br />

milk, boasts a naturally delightful creaminess<br />

that can even be savoured on its own. Not only<br />

“llaollao is the Group’s biggest portfolio and we<br />

also have a restaurant called TBC, which stands<br />

for <strong>The</strong> Beginning Chapter,” says Tan.

which has a long and reputable history.<br />

“We will also be creating our very own beverage brand<br />

this year. So, there will be two beverage brands that we<br />

will introduce this year catered to different sectors and<br />

markets in Malaysia,” he explains.<br />

Launched in Malaysia in 2015, llaollao has swiftly gained<br />

massive popularity and recently marked a milestone<br />

by opening its 100th outlet in a mall in Kuala Lumpur’s<br />

Golden Triangle area.<br />

Despite opening during the challenging lockdown<br />

period, Willow now receives an overwhelmingly positive<br />

Tan, a dedicated advocate of a health-conscious lifestyle,<br />

resides in the serene <strong>Tropicana</strong> Golf & Country Resort in<br />

Petaling Jaya, an ideal location that not only allows him to<br />

indulge in his passion for golf but also engage in various<br />

activities with his beloved family, including his three-yearold<br />

daughter.<br />

As a result, he notes that the response from customers<br />

has been very encouraging, signifying the mall’s<br />

reputation as a vibrant destination that continuously<br />

In line with the attention on ESG ("Environmental, Social,<br />

Having called this neighbourhood home for the past<br />

23 years, Tan has witnessed its remarkable growth. <strong>The</strong><br />

abundance of recreational opportunities in the area offers<br />

a multitude of options for physical fitness and enjoyment,<br />

he says. He fondly recalls taking part in swimming and<br />

badminton training there, and nowadays he takes his<br />

daughter for swimming lessons every Sunday.<br />

“I play golf at TGCR regularly, finding pleasure in<br />

perfecting my swing, and I enjoy spending leisurely<br />

moments at the clubhouse,” Tan says, adding that TGCR<br />

is a place that exudes warmth and provides an excellent<br />

Home gardening tips:<br />

Genting Highlands<br />

showcases 1. Give it nature’s time best<br />

Caring for nature, whether a landscape or a home garden,<br />

is like caring for a partner. It takes time and patience. If you<br />

don’t have the time to commit, it’s better not to take it up.<br />

2. Set a schedule and stick to it<br />

This includes watering, trimming, fertilising and cleaning.<br />

3. Get to know your garden<br />

According to Mohd Suriga, plants and trees have “souls”.<br />

Some are independent and hardy, while others require more<br />

care. Adapt your habits to their needs.<br />

5. Avoid the bedroom<br />

Plants stop photosynthesising during the night and their net<br />

oxygen consumption increases.<br />

6. Edibles<br />

Those with a garden plot can opt for edibles such as pandan,<br />

lemongrass, calamansi and curry plants.<br />

7. Be practical, not trendy<br />

While organic fertilisers are trendy, they require lots of space and<br />

time to produce at home. Store-bought fertilisers such as wood<br />

vinegar are more practical and usually come in one-litre bottles.<br />

8. Macronutrients<br />

For fertilisers, most plants need the “NPK” macronutrients:<br />

nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. <strong>The</strong>se are sold in<br />

different ratios, such as 8-8-8, 15-15-15 or 12-12-17, in nurseries<br />

and supermarkets. Do check on suitable amounts and<br />

frequencies before use.<br />

4. Natural air purifier<br />

For indoor gardens, plants that purify air are ideal. Dracaena<br />

(“dragon’s tree”) and sansevieria (“snake plant”) are popular<br />

and common choices in Malaysia.<br />

9. Say no to dead leaves<br />

Avoid compacting dead leaves around indoor plants as a<br />

fertiliser. <strong>The</strong> decomposition process is exothermic and can<br />

impact growing temperature, while attracting germs.
