St Johns Church & Churchyard. Ashley 36b/ Sandstone headstone, engraved in two halves. Left side.. EDWARD / THOMPSON / the elder / was buried / Dec br ye 10th / 1717 Right side. and / MARY / his wife / was buried / Oct r ye 23rd / 1729. 37b/ Square sandstone headstone. Near this stone / lieth the bodied / of JOHN SAMUEL SARAH / ANN and SAMUEL sons / and daughter of SAMUEL / and ELIZABETH LAWTON of this / town all died young / Also MARGARET their daug / hter died Sept r 13 1787 aged / 17 / Mourn not for me my parents dear / lest God should on you frown / though I was young, the Lord was strong / and quickly cut me down / He chose for me a bed of rest / and eased me of my pain / when Christ appears with joyful tears / I hope to rise again. 38b/ Large shaped sandstone headstone. Left side. Sacred / to the memory of / SAMUEL LAWTON / late of this town / who departed this life / March the 14th 1810 / aged 79 years. Right side. To the memory of / ELIZ. wife of the sais / SAMUEL LAWTON / who departed this life / June 13th 1811 / aged 85 years. In kindred dust there lies a happy pair / zeal to thier saviour was their greatest care / they taught their children, in their early age / to trace the scriptures each sacred page / and to instuct them in the paths of light / to know the gospel was their whole delight / steadfast in faith, grounded in charity / and to their neighbours ever kind and free. 39b/ Bodystone, very worn Sacred to the / memory of..............
