SCHOOL VISION
At Kew Green, we offer our children the opportunity to succeed, to be recognised and to be valued. They will develop the
intellectual, emotional and ethical requirements to tackle the challenges that life will present. We instil tolerance, respect
for others and the capacity to celebrate diversity and embrace change. We understand that children need to be nurtured,
guided, motivated and inspired. We are a school of smiles and laughter where there is lots of fun to be had. We want our
school days to be the happiest of our children’s lives.
SCHOOL ETHOS
Kew Green’s ethos is based on best practice, observed in both
the state and independent sectors, which places an emphasis
on each child as an individual.
We believe that children thrive in an environment that is
loving and supportive. Physically, socially, emotionally and
intellectually - your child will develop and achieve their full
potential with us. Our aim is that your child will leave as a
skilled and adaptable young citizen, who will grow up to meet
the challenges of the 21st century.
SCHOOL AIMS
At Kew Green Preparatory School, we offer our children the opportunity to succeed, be recognised and be valued. Our
pupils achieve their full potential - academically, physically and socially - throughout their journey at the school. Our key
aims are to:
• Stimulate intellectual curiosity, academic rigour and the ability to learn independently;
• Encourage talents and interests beyond the academic;
• Instil knowledge, skills and attitudes to succeed in a complex, fast-changing society, with respect, resilience and high
self-esteem;
• Understand the importance of citizenship and positively contribute to society and commit to the service of others.
We believe that children need to be nurtured, guided, motivated and inspired to allow them to blossom. We are a school
of smiles and laughter where pupils grow to have ambition and develop their sense of achievement, their sense of
belonging and their sense that, for them, there are no limits.
Curiosity Creativity Confidence Collaboration
We aim to be supportive of everyone involved in Kew Green Preparatory School and value personal endeavour, excellence,
creativity and fun. In order to achieve this, we have created an attractive, safe and functional learning environment,
coupled with a dedicated, professional teaching staff. Our ethos and aims are to ensure that we all — school, home and
children — work as a team towards the same goals.
WE ARE COMMITTED TO PROVIDING:
A broad curriculum: we are a school that educates children from aged four to eleven through a variety of subjects, offering
a broad-based curriculum. It is emphasised at Open Mornings that we do not support departures at any stage other than
11+.
Extra-curricular activities: a wide variety is offered at KGPS. Striking a balance between working and playing hard
is important. It is also vital to give opportunities, where possible, for children to extend their interests and have them
acknowledged at school.
Open door policy: we welcome the involvement of parents in their child’s education and very much see it as a partnership.
We welcome parental support whether listening to pupils read, helping in the library, fundraising, talking to pupils about
their careers and at other events. We see this involvement as a defining aspect of the school.
Excellent teaching: the role of the teacher is demanding, exciting and rewarding. Teachers will inspire children with
their enthusiasm and knowledge as well as encouraging inquisitiveness. Equally important is their sensitivity towards the
pastoral care of the child.
Pupil voice: we aim to show the children their opinions and perspectives will be respected and listened to.
Non-selective: Kew Green Preparatory School accepts pupils of all abilities. Whilst all children have many strengths, they
may also have weaknesses. Understanding this in oneself and in others is vital. It also provides a rich tapestry within a
school — academically, musically, linguistically, artistically, physically, emotionally, socially and culturally.
Co-educational: we endeavour to maintain a 50:50 girl-boy ratio.
Information and records: we maintain confidentiality of records about staff and children with access only available to
those who have a right or a professional need to see them. Parent and/or cares are given access to all records about their
child, provided that no relevant exemptions apply to their disclosure under the Data Protection Act.
ADMINISTRATIVE ISSUES
ADDRESSES
Parents are asked to inform us immediately of any change of address, telephone number or email address so that our
records can be constantly kept up to date. This is of the utmost importance in case of emergency and should include
details for regular carers.
EMERGENCY CONTACT NUMBERS
We ask parents to provide a minimum of two emergency contact numbers in addition to their own work/home/mobile
phone numbers. It is vital that any changes to these details are given to the School Secretary. Please note any person on
the contact list must be prepared to take full responsibility for the child — including medical decisions.
ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL
If your child is absent due to illness, please telephone or email the school between
8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. It is the expectation for the children to attend school
full-time. Written permission is required from the Headteacher to take your child
out of school during term-time, and only in exceptional circumstances such as
educational or special family occasions will this be given. A request for absence
form may be found on the My School Portal.
ARRIVAL AT THE BEGINNING OF THE DAY
The school gates are open from 8.20 a.m. We welcome children into their
classrooms at 8.20 a.m. Children should not be left unsupervised before this time.
The front gate is manned from 8:20–8:40 a.m. After this, it will be locked and the
entry phone must be used to enter the school premises.
REGISTRATION
Children are allowed in the classrooms from 8:20 with registration between
8:30 and 8.40 a.m. Lessons start promptly at 8:45am. Children arriving after
registration time will be marked as late. Repeated absences and ‘lates’ will
generate an absence report which may require parents to come in for a
meeting with the Headteacher. We aim to have a quiet, focused start to the
day so please ensure that your child has time to hang up his/her blazer, hand
in homework and prepare without rushing or disturbing registration.
The register is taken at the start of morning and after lunch. It is a formal
event where the children and their teacher greet each other. It is also a legal
requirement which is essential in the event of an emergency. If your child has
missed registration, they will be sent to the School Office to register his/her
arrival. If you collect your child for an appointment, please sign them out on
your departure and in on your return. The book for this purpose is kept in the
School Office.
LATENESS
If a child arrives late at school, the parent must go to the office to mark them
in the register and then escort them to their class. If assembly has begun,
the child must enter the back of the hall quietly to join their class. For special
assemblies, late pupils may be required to wait in the School Office to avoid
disruption.
MORNING BREAK
Morning break time is at 10:00 a.m. and lasts for 30 minutes. Children are
given a snack of fresh fruit before going out to the playground.
8
9
DISMISSAL
Children are formally dismissed from the front of the school. At this time, the children say “good afternoon” to their
teacher and shake their hand before going straight to their parent/carer. Once handover is completed, your child is no
longer the responsibility of the school. Your child should not be left unsupervised at any time on the school site after
dismissal. Once dismissed, parents are responsible for their child’s behaviour. Games on the gravel are prohibited and we
advise parents to move onto the Green.
A child will not be dismissed without a member of staff having seen the person collecting them. For Lower School children,
we ask for a an email to the school secretary and class teacher should there be any change from the usual routine. If you
are late collecting your child, please let us know and they will attend Aftercare. If we are not informed, the School Office
will contact you and, if needed, your child will be sent to Aftercare. You will be charged the relevant rate.
Lower School dismissal is as follows:
Reception, Year 1 and 2 at 3:15 p.m.
In the Autumn Term, Friday afternoons are optional for Reception children and they can be collected either at 12.15pm
or 3pm. In the Spring and Summer Terms all Reception children are expected to complete a full week at school.
COLLECTING YOUR CHILD FROM SCHOOL
If another family member or an au pair/nanny collects your child regularly, please introduce them to your child's teacher.
If there is a change to your regular routine, please inform the class teacher through an email to the school secretary
secretary@kgps.co.uk.
AFTERCARE AND MORNING CARE
We offer a service to parents of looking after their children before or after school, for which a fee is charged (please see
the school website for the current rate). Children can do their homework or take part in supervised play. Children who
stay beyond 4:45 p.m. will be given a snack. Children must be collected no later than 6:00 p.m. After 5:00 p.m., when the
School Office is closed, a member of the Senior Leadership Team will answer the telephone. Please book your child into
Aftercare through the office, preferably prior to midday of the day.
COMMUNICATIONS WITH PARENTS
We have an ‘open-door’ policy. Class teachers are usually available for meetings with parents directly after school, as well
as being available for a brief chat before class in the morning. Alternatively, you can email any staff member. All staff email
addresses follow the same format: firstname.surname@kgps.co.uk
(for example, rowena.heaton@kgps.co.uk).
The school’s newsletter, ‘Kewlife’, is a celebration of Kew Green’s achievements. It is issued by post half-termly during
Autumn and then termly in the Spring and Summer. A weekly email from class teachers are sent every Friday and provide
information for the following week and any relevant updates. Letters are sent electronically; do check My School Portal
for updated information.
PHOTOGRAPHS
At Kew Green, we consider photography to be an important part of our school life and we encourage its use to celebrate a
record many aspects of it. As per our Social Media Policy and Use of Pupil Images Policy, parents will be sent the required
form to provide consent.
SECURITY
For security and safety reasons, the gates are locked during the day. A
video security system comes into operation between 8.00 a.m. and 6p.m.
If you need to come into school during these times, press the buzzer by
the side of the gate and identify yourself when asked. To help us maintain
security, please ensure you close the gate firmly. Please ensure you or your
child do not use the security code to enter the school. The children are
forbidden to know the gate code or interfere with the buttons or the gates.
If your child knows the code, please inform the School Office — this is
important for the security of all on the school premises. In exceptional
circumstances, permission is granted to parents to park in the car park.
10
11
VISITORS
Visitors to the school are required to sign the visitors’ book in the office and wear a visitor’s tag, including parent readers.
This book is located outside the office in the foyer.
CLASS REPRESENTATIVES
From Reception – Year 6, one parent in each class acts as a Class Representative/Class Rep. The role is part of the Friends
of Kew/PTA and the Class Rep acts as the voice for the parents. The Class Rep is invited to attend coffee mornings with
the Headteacher to provide feedback on behalf of the class and receives feedback to share from the school. Together
with other Class Reps, they work as part of the ‘Friends of Kew Green’ parent committee to organise, lead and support
whole-school events and initiatives.
CONCERNS
If you have any worries or queries, please talk to the relevant teacher in the first instance. In this way, we hope concerns
or misunderstandings may be cleared up immediately; however, if you feel the matter has not been resolved satisfactorily
then you should make an appointment to see the Head of Section. Appointments with the Deputy Head or Headteacher
should be made via the School Office.
BEHAVIOUR AND CONDUCT
BEHAVIOUR
High standards of behaviour are expected at all times. In line with ‘The Kew Green Charter’ (see ‘Conduct’ below), we
aim to create a calming, caring and supportive environment in which all children can grow, flourish and celebrate their
successes. Any unacceptable behaviour will be challenged, and the Head of Section kept informed. Serious or repeated
incidents of poor behaviour will be referred to the Head of Section which may attract sanctions such as: missing some
playtime, writing a letter of apology or joining another class. A behaviour log is kept by the Head of Section. The next step
will involve the Deputy Head and finally the Headteacher. At all times, parents are kept informed and, where necessary,
invited to meet to discuss the incidents and to support the school with the resulting decisions. Please see our Behaviour,
Rewards and Sanctions Policy.
CONDUCT
We aim to make our school a happy, welcoming and secure environment. We place great emphasis on the pastoral care
that we provide. The conduct and behaviour of the children are key contributors to this atmosphere. Our staff quickly
get to know the children, to listen to every child and treat him/her fairly, sensitively and with concern and kindness.
We encourage and expect the children to be able to work and play happily together, taking pleasure in their own and
others' achievements. We expect good manners from the children — opening doors for adults, appropriate greetings and
politeness at all times. Any bullying, sexism, racism and unkind behaviour is taken very seriously and dealt with swiftly and
firmly. It is our school policy to always inform and involve parents.
The children are expected to follow our ‘Kew Green Charter’:
• Always treat others as you would like them to treat you;
• Never do anything which may harm yourself or another;
• Try not to interrupt when someone else is talking;
• Treat everybody with respect and courtesy;
• Listen and follow instructions first time.
12
CURRICULUM
ASSEMBLIES
A weekly Lower School Assembly takes place every Friday where we celebrate success, hard work and kindness. This is
known as the Merit Assembly. All children will receive a merit certificate each term. Once a year, each class has a Class
Assembly held on a Thursday morning. Parents are invited to attend class assemblies (with all mobile phones switched
off, please!). Younger siblings are also welcome, but we ask that they sit quietly and do not disrupt proceedings. Parents
are also requested NOT to bring food or drink into the hall on these occasions. On occasions, such as World Book Day
or Remembrance we hold extra assemblies. Guest speakers are regularly invited to our assemblies, often representing
charitable organisations. We also welcome parental contributions to our assemblies. The school’s religious overview is
that we are a non-denominational school.
CLUBS
A variety of clubs run before, during and after school. These change termly. Information about clubs, times, dates, capacity
and any charges are sent out in our communicated before each term, via email or on My School Portal. It is a good idea
to provide a small healthy snack if your child attends an after-school club. Please ensure there are no traces of nuts in
the snack. If you are late collecting your child from a club, then s/he will be taken to Aftercare. If your child will not be
attending a club, please notify the School Office.
After school clubs run from 3.45-4.30pm
INFORMATION EVENINGS
Information Evenings are invaluable meetings to hear all about the curriculum and key information for the year, homework
and any other classroom management matters relevant to the year group. A ‘curricular overview’ is sent out on the first
Friday of each term, setting out details of the term’s work and teachers’ expectation of the term ahead. Also included are
assembly dates, school trips, coffee morning dates and any other relevant information.
GAMES/P.E.
Each year group has a minimum of three sessions of P.E. per week. Most of these lessons are held on Kew Green. Some
sports lessons are taught off site and the children travel a short distance to use the facilities.
HOMEWORK
Your child will be issued with a Pupil Planner for home-school
communication. If you have any concerns regarding homework, inform
the class teacher immediately. Please make sure you read the diary daily
and it is brought into school each day. Reading books are issued regularly
and may be read over several days. Please sign this to show when you
have listened to your child read and write any comments. Do encourage
your child to ‘read’ bedtime stories with you and literature other than
the school reading schemes. Guidelines on homework tasks are covered
during Information Evenings. Homework will be differentiated supporting
and reinforcing work covered at school. Homework is an opportunity for
your child to develop independent study skills. For each year group, the
type of homework will progress throughout the year.
Lower School homework time allocation guidelines:
The children should not need to work longer than these times below. If
they are, please inform the class teacher.
• Reception: 15 minutes per day
• Year 1: 20 minutes per day
• Year 2: 25 minutes per day
LEARNING SUPPORT AND THE PROGRESS CENTRE
Learning support at KGPS is based in the warm and friendly atmosphere of the Progress Centre. The department is run
by a full time SENco. This team work closely with the teachers to identify as early as possible those children who are not
achieving in the way we might expect, putting in place an appropriate form of support. This generally takes the form of
small group interventions using multisensory resources.
These children will have an Individual Educational Plan (IEP), which can be discussed in collaboration with parents and
reviewed termly. This document will explain what kind of extra learning support they receive, who is delivering it and any
specific targets the child is working towards. In this way their progress is monitored very closely. Parents whose children
are receiving support will have access to our online provision mapping via EduKey.
Occasionally children do not make significant progress, perhaps because of a specific learning difficulty. If it is felt that the
child would benefit from further support, we can refer parents to respected professionals (speech and language therapists,
educational psychologists) with whom we have strong associations. With their input, we draw on their expertise to assess
and advise as to the best way to support these children. More detailed information may be obtained from the SENco.
MUSIC LESSONS
All children have a whole class music lesson each week as well as a year group singing lesson with our Head of Music. In
addition, children may learn a range of instruments in peripatetic private music lessons.
PERFORMANCE
Various performances occur during the school year. The main performance for Lower School is the Nativity Play held at
St. Anne’s Church at the end of the Autumn Term. This is performed by the Year One and Two classes. It is the school’s
intention that all children participate. The Reception perform a Christmas class assembly. In addition, music assemblies
are held once a term. Children can perform their instrument in front of an audience. Parents are invited to all of these
assemblies if your child is performing.
PLAYTIME
Playtime is a very important activity for the children. A range of equipment
is available throughout the year, depending on the sport, season and
weather. Children are encouraged to share equipment and to enjoy
playing together. Three members of staff are on duty to supervise the
children. There is a rota for the football day to ensure all the children have
an equal chance to play with the equipment. The children ask permission
to leave the playground, so the adult is aware of where of where the
children are at all times and that numbers are monitored. Should your
child feel lonely, we have a ‘buddy bench’ system whereby children will
invite whoever is sitting on the buddy bench on the top playground to join
them in their games. There is also a ‘time out’ wall used at the discretion
of the teacher on duty.
On cold days, please ensure that your child has appropriate warm clothing.
On hot days, the school summer caps should be worn outside. We suggest
the application of sunscreen before your child comes to school.
‘First Bell’ — When the bell goes, the children ‘freeze ’then put toys away, move up to the top playground. This is an
opportunity to go to the toilet or get a drink of water from the water fountain. ‘Second Bell’ — This bell indicates the end
of play and the classes will be dismissed. The teacher of the next lesson leads the children quietly into school.
RECEPTION CLASSES
Children from birth to five years of age are identified as ‘Early Years’. For Kew Green Preparatory School, this is our
Reception cohort. For detailed information regarding the Early Years philosophy and delivery of curriculum please refer
to the Early Years Policy on our website.
16
17
REPORTS
An annual written report is sent to parents in the Summer Term prior to the Parents' Evenings. This includes reports on all
curriculum areas and individual and peripatetic lessons. It provides a summary of the child's progress academic and social
development for the academic year. The Early Years teachers also meet with the Year One teachers to discuss each child’s
progress and ‘characteristics of learning’ for an effective and smooth transition into the next year group.
SPORTS DAY
Sports Day takes place on Kew Green at the end of the Summer Term. Many other sporting events take place throughout
the year such as Lower School Big Run. Some events involve the whole school including parents!
TIMETABLES
Copies of your child’s timetable are displayed on the classroom door and in their Pupil Planner and will also be sent out
with the curricular overview.
THEMED WEEKS
These weeks offer valuable opportunity for ‘cross-curricular’ learning. Through extending the existing curriculum, children
are given the opportunity to take part in workshops, visit special exhibitions, talk to visiting specialists and to celebrate
their learning through dress, food and music appropriate to the subject.
SWIMMING
Year 2 swim once a week during the Spring Term. Please ensure that your child's costume, goggles, towel, underwear etc.,
are clearly named. All children should wear a school swimming hat.
VISITS
The school organises regular off-site visits for the children as well as inviting guest speakers in. Your child will have at
least one major trip each term that will be planned to enhance the curriculum. Parents will be invoiced for the cost and
this will be included in the termly invoices. Please note that your child must have his/her full school uniform (blazer and
cap/hat) for all visits, unless otherwise stated by the class teacher. Please also ensure that you have signed the local visits
permission slips for your child to attend these events.
FOOD & DRINK
BIRTHDAYS AND OTHER CELEBRATIONS
Your child is welcome to bring in cupcakes or treats to share with their class on special occasions. These need to be
individually wrapped and are handed out at the end of the day. Please ensure that these are without traces of nuts so
that all children can safely enjoy them.
LUNCH
Lunch sittings are staggered, starting with Reception at 11:50am followed
by Year 1 and then Year 2, finishing at 1:00pm.
All children have lunch in the hall, supervised by members of staff. The
children wash their hands before eating and are expected to conduct
themselves quietly and politely during lunch, as well as use a knife, fork
and spoon appropriately. The food is cooked on the premises, sourced
locally and nutritious and plentiful. Bread, crudités, cheese cubes, fresh
water, dried and fresh fruit are always provided in addition to the main
meal. If your child has any special dietary needs, please see the School
Chef to discuss them. The weekly menu is published on My School Portal.
WATER BOTTLES
We are aware that fresh drinking water should be available at all times for
young children. We therefore encourage all children to bring their own
named water bottles which are stored in the classrooms.
18
19
HEALTH AND SAFETY
ACCIDENTS
At least one qualified First Aider is always available on the premises and most members of staff have had basic first aid
training, including Paediatric First Aid for those working in Early Years. The Accident Book is situated in the School Office to
record serious accidents, particularly head injuries. Class teachers, or staff on playground duty, deal with minor incidents.
ALLERGIES
If your child has an allergy, you will be required to complete a ‘individual healthcare plan’ at the start of each academic
year. Please see the School Secretary or the Medical Conditions Policy.
DOGS
Please note dogs are prohibited from inside the school building but are allowed onsite at the front of the school during
drop-off and pick-up. Please ensure you clean up after your dog and you are respectful to those waiting around you.
HEAD LICE
Following a few simple guidelines reduces the number and extent of outbreaks of head lice. If you notice that your child
has an infestation, please treat it promptly. Also let the class teacher know so that we can inform other parents to be on
the lookout! An advisory letter of treatment will be sent home to the class. If we discover that your child has head lice,
we will ask that you collect your child from school and treat them immediately.
MEDICAL INFORMATION
It is vital that the school has relevant information regarding any past illnesses, treatment or allergies. All medicines are
kept in the School Office. Please also tell your child's teacher of any problems that may affect your child’s well-being,
emotionally or physically.
MEDICATION
If a child needs regular doses of medicine, please try to ensure that this
takes place out of school hours. If it is necessary for your child to take
medication during the school day, please talk to the School Office. The
parent/carer must complete a medical form giving permission for the
administering of the medicine which is kept in the school office. The
medicine should be in its original container. All medicines should be clearly
labelled with your child's name and a written instruction stipulating the
dosage and times required.
Parents are responsible for ensuring that the school has an adequate
supply of their child’s medicine and that it is replaced before it reaches its
expiry date. All medicines kept at school must be collected by parents at
the end of term and new ones provided at the start of the next term. Any
medicines that are not collected at the end of term will be taken to the
pharmacy for safe disposal.
SICKNESS
If your child is vomiting, has diarrhoea, conjunctivitis, a temperature or
any contagious disease, please do not bring him/her to school until at
least 24 hours after symptoms have cleared. As you can appreciate, a
contagious illness can rapidly spread in a school environment. On these
occasions, the whole school will be informed according to the statutory
requirements.
If a child becomes ill during the day we will contact you, and request that
s/he is collected. If an infectious disease is diagnosed, please inform the
school immediately and keep your child at home until fully recovered.
The school actively encourages the involvement of parents, formally and informally. There is an active KGPS parents’
association known as ‘Friends of Kew Green’ with elected officers and parent representatives for each class. There are
also Section Representatives representing the parent body for Lower School and Upper School.
We welcome volunteers to help with listening to readers school trips and other activities around the school. If you wish
to be a regular volunteer, we will require you to complete a DBS check (Disclosure and Barring service).
Please contact: secretary@kgps.co.uk.
NEW PARENTS’ DRINKS
This usually takes place in the first few weeks of the Autumn Term. We ask all new parents to come and meet the
teachers, Directors and representatives from the parent’s association over a glass of wine.
PARENTS’ EVENINGS
Parents’ Evenings are held every term and we invite parents to take this opportunity to discuss their child’s academic
and social progress with the class teacher. Specialist teachers are also available. The appointments are spread over two
evenings. Appointments can be made via our electronic booking system ahead of the Parents’ Evenings. Teachers are
always willing to meet parents at an alternative time should these dates be inconvenient. In addition to Parents’ Evenings,
there are further opportunities where parents are invited into the school.
PARENT WORKSHOPS
There is a regular programme of parent workshops throughout the year to cover a range of topics to advise on techniques
to support with your child’s learning in these areas. Other workshops include: assessment, 11+ process, Life Skills and
SRE. A full calendar of events can be found on My School Portal.
HAIR
If your child has hair that is below shoulder-length, it should be tied back at all times using either blue or green hair ties.
Hair colour and braids are not permitted, but plain blue or green Alice bands are acceptable. No child should have hair
covering their eyes.
JEWELLERY AND MAKE-UP
Children should not wear jewellery, make-up, nail polish or skin transfers at school of any form other than for medical or
religious reasons. Watches are encouraged.
LOST PROPERTY
It is important that your child's bags and uniform, including
P.E. kit, shoes and underwear (for swimmers), are clearly
labelled. If your child loses an item of uniform, please check
the Lost Property trunk (between the Reception classrooms
and the sheds). If this is not successful, email the class
teacher and your class rep.
SCHOOL BAGS
Please ensure that your child uses the KGPS book bag,
rucksack for their P.E. clothes and swimming bag. Please refer
to the uniform list.
SCHOOL UNIFORM
School uniform is an important part of our identity. We insist that children wear the correct uniform at all times. A full list
of requirements can be obtained from the School Office. Children must have their blazers with them each day as well as
hats/caps for school trips.
School uniform can be purchased from Perry Uniform at www.perryuniform.co.uk. There is also a second-hand uniform
sale each July and intermittently across the school year run by the ‘Friends of Kew Green’.
TRAVEL AND TRANSPORTATION
BICYCLES AND SCOOTERS
If your child cycles to school, their bike must be left securely locked in the racks provided in the school grounds. The
school accepts no liability for any equipment left on the school premises at any time. We also ask that any child cycling to
school wear a cycle helmet. The riding of bicycles or scooters on the school premises is forbidden.
SCHOOL BUS
Information regarding schedules and costs may be
obtained from the School Office: secretary@kgps.co.uk
Please ensure you inform the school office of any
changes to regular bus use ideally by 12 o’clock on the
day.
Winter Uniform Summer Uniform P.E. Kit
TOYS
Toys are not encouraged at school as they can easily be lost or damaged.
TRAVEL PLAN
To prevent congestion caused by the school run, we ask
that pupils come to school either by public transport,
bicycle, walking or by the school bus service. If the use
of a car is unavoidable, parents must not drive down
or park on the north side of Kew Green adjacent to
the school. Adherence to this ‘green’ travel plan is a
condition of acceptance and the school is committed to
this policy.
UNCOLLECTED CHILD PROCEDURE
Kew Green offers an ‘After Care’ service until 6pm. This will be used if a parent has not arrived at the normal collection
time, at the end of the school day or after a club. The member of staff looking after the child will take the uncollected
child to Aftercare and then ring the parents or guardian. The child will then be looked after and given something to eat
and drink until they are collected on or before 6.00pm.
The SLT member on duty will wait with the child until the child is either taken home or a child’s school family friend or
social services have collected the child.
The SLT member involved will log notes on the event, on the child’s profile on CPOMS. The Designated Safeguarding Lead
will also be informed by the member of SLT.
Parents are asked to telephone the school immediately if they know they will be late due to traffic, an accident etc. to
avoid undue concern and leave a contact mobile number.
If a child has not been collected by 6.10pm, the member of Senior Leadership Team (SLT) who is overseeing Aftercare for
that particular evening will telephone parents. Should there be no reply, emergency contact numbers that are provided
by the parents will be called, until a contact has been made with someone. The message that the child has not been
collected and that they need to contact the school immediately will be left on answer machines along with the school
telephone number. All reasonable attempts will be made to contact the parents or nominated carers.
In the unlikely event that no contact has been made with any person on the contact list, by 6.20pm, contact numbers
will be tried again and this time a mobile number for the member of SLT will be left (due to the school phone not being
manned at this time). If no contact has been made with a parent or ‘carer’ by 6.30pm, for the welfare of the child,
Emergency Social Services will be contacted for advice, Tel 020 8547 5008 and they will talk through possible options
(this process may take up to 2 hours).
Kingston and Richmond Safeguarding Children Partnership (KRSCP) advise that a child is not taken home by a member of
staff unless the parent has given permission.
