Uniform Outward appearance as well as demeanour and character can reflect on the College as well as on the students. Students should come to school and leave school smartly dressed every day. Our pupils are ambassadors for the school when in public – please ensure they set and sustain a good example of personal smartness and individual behaviour. Regulation clothing must be worn in school, on journeys to and from school, on school occasions and whenever students represent the College. Sportswear must be brought to school on the appropriate day and taken home afterwards, not left in school. You will be advised which kit is required; more detail is provided on the website, including which sportswear is needed each term. All clothing, bags and equipment must be named. Each day, discovery 8 Further Information Music Information about Music at Eltham College Junior School, including instrumental lessons and concerts, is available on the College website: www.eltham-college.org.uk/co-curricular/junior/music Should you have any specific questions please email our Music Administrator music@eltham-college.org.uk Houses The College has four houses: these are named, in keeping with the school’s heritage, after missionaries: Carey (blue), Chalmers (red), Moffat (yellow) and Livingstone (green). The House system promotes a healthy competitive spirit based on a year round programme of academic, athletic and artistic events. The four houses are also involved in charitable fundraising activities. Attendance If your child’s journey to school has been delayed and they are likely to arrive late please contact the Junior School Office on 020 8857 3457 or email juniors@eltham-college.org.uk If a student is unwell, parents must notify the Junior School Office before 8.30am on the morning of the absence and on subsequent days. An email to your child’s Form Tutor is also helpful. If a child does not appear at school and we have not been notified, we will attempt to verify the absence of the student by a phone call. All students will participate in Games and PE lessons unless an email from their parent is received. Requests up to two days absence should be submitted in advance by email to juniors@eltham-college.org.uk and their form tutor. All requests for a longer leave of absence should only be made in exceptional circumstances and should be in writing to the Head of Section (Mrs Chamberlain or Mr Wearmouth). Homework All homework is published digitally on satchelone.com for the convenience of students and parents. Books and Stationery All textbooks are provided by the College but parents are asked to see that their child has the following items of their own at the beginning of term: • Set of coloured pencils • Set of felt-tip pens • 2 pencils, sharpener, rubber and ruler (30cm, clear plastic marked in mm intervals) • Case/satchel large enough to accommodate A4 size paper Medication Inhalers, auto-injectors and regular medication are kept in the Junior Medical Team’s room and administered as per written instructions. It is vital that the College is kept informed of any changes to your child’s medical information, via the medical team email jsmt@eltham-college.org.uk Personal Items Footballs, tennis balls and other personal items may be brought to school provided they are named and remain the responsibility of the owner. The College has a stock of lunchtime sporting equipment. Students should not bring toys, valuables, money or electronic games into school. We do not allow students to bring collectable cards into school. The College cannot be held responsible for items that are brought in and go missing at school. Valuables The staff will take all reasonable precautions to help students, but they are personally responsible for their own property at all times. We advise students not to bring valuable items into school. They should be vigilant and sensible in the care of their own property, and be wholly respectful and honest in their dealings with other people’s belongings. All possessions should be named. We advise against pupils wearing smart watches. If one is worn, all functions except time telling must be disabled during the school day. Mobile Phones Mobile phones may be brought to school for safety reasons by pupils who travel by coach or by older students who walk or cycle to school. They must be switched off during the day and not used. Emergency calls can be made from the Junior School Office. It is a good idea, if a mobile phone is brought in, that it is an inexpensive one in case of loss or damage and should be labelled with your child’s name.
