No more than 10 rooms per municipality are allowed. State law allows an exemption from sales tax on sleeping rooms reserved by officials representing government entities. When making reservations, it is your responsibility to inform the hotel of your tax-exempt status and submit the required form to claim the exemption. Rates cited are nightly, exclusive of taxes. But when you start cooking for a thousand, the tools and ingredients you need to make the taste right—well, it’s a big deal,” says Daigle. “Take spaghetti and meat sauce. Four or five pounds of meat can feed thirty people. But when you’re cooking for a thousand, you’re putting 250 pounds of meat on a tilt skillet and using whole cases of tomato sauce and tomato paste with pounds of seasonings. So, it’s quite a different way to do it!” The new partnership between CRS and LaMATS will provide a range of essential support services including hot meals, clean water, housing, power, and communications for both utility workers and municipal staff, at consistent pricing for all LMA members and other local governments starting June 1. Municipalities are encouraged to contact LaMATS about CRS well before news of any coming storm. “CRS and other LaMATS partners working in this arena need to know early about estimated numbers of city staff and their potential needs for equipment and services,” said LaMATS Executive Director, Cliff Palmer. “One thing we know for certain in Louisiana is that another crisis will come.
