Bo Gyoon Park (Republic of Korea)
This is Minister Bo Gyoon Park from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
I would like to extend my congratulations on the upcoming World Choir Games, which
is often referred to as the "Olympics of Choral Music," being held in Gangneung,
Korea. To all the participating choirs who have traveled from different parts of the
world to represent their countries, we warmly welcome you to Gangneung. I would
also like to express my deepest gratitude to Gangwon State, Gangneung City, and all
the individuals involved in the organization for their tremendous efforts in preparing
for this event, starting from winning the bid back in 2020.
These year's World Choir Games carry the theme of "Peace and Prosperity for
All." We have faced the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, which
prevented us from coming together and singing for a long time. Now, as the world
slowly recovers and regains a sense of normality, it is time for us to finally sing
"TOGETHER." I sincerely hope that your voices will resound with a passionate
longing for peace and prosperity.
The Gangneung Arena, where the Opening and Closing ceremonies, as well as the
Awards Ceremonies,, will take place, holds special significance as it preserves the
legacy of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. Through the official events held
here, we will share the story of peace that Koreans have cherished for generations
with people from around the world. Over the next 11 days, as the competition unfolds,
I believe that the intense harmony of the choirs will create a beautiful melody. Choir
members will become friends, supporting and understanding each other, while the
audience's hearts will be filled with the captivating harmony brought to life by the
musicians.
Every song carries its own unique story. I am confident that this event will bring
together a diverse range of music, each conveying its own narrative through
distinctive melodies. It is my sincere hope that all the participating choirs will be
able to showcase their talents in a safe and enjoyable environment.
Once again, I congratulate the start of the World Choir Games Gangneung 2023.
I hope that everyone involved will have a wonderful time at this festival, and that you
will experience the captivating power of music.
Thank you.
Bo Gyoon Park
