MISSION STATEMENT Harbor Christian Academy exists to transform students from varied backgrounds across Houston through a classical and Christian education to the glory of God. FOUNDATIONAL TRUTHS ABOUT US • HIGH EXPECTATIONS HCA students are made in the image of God and have potential beyond what we could ask or imagine. Curriculum and pedagogy are designed to help students to achieve this potential and follow the pathways that God sets before them. • FAITH-BASED EDUCATION HCA provides a Christ-centered education. Every subject is taught from a biblical worldview, with the truth and hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ infusing all studies. • AFFORDABLE All HCA families pay tuition, and tuition is determined on a sliding scale based on income and family size. Over 50% of families pay the minimum tuition, which is $60 per month. Our goal is to provide an affordable education for the surrounding low-income communities, and no student has been turned away for lack of funds. Tuition covers approximately 10% of operating costs, and the remainder of funds needed are provided by donations. PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT Parental involvement is one of the most important factors in student success. All parents sign a parent covenant and agree to support their students’ learning and participate in the life of the school. A new staff position, Community Engagement Coordinator, has been created for the 23-24 school year, and will help to facilitate further parent involvement through parent education and individual parent support. 4
The following is the foundation of beliefs on which HCA is based. These are also the essential elements of Christianity that will be unapologetically taught in various ways throughout all grade levels. The substance of these statements is that which will be considered primary doctrine in HCA. Secondary or divisive doctrines or issues will not be presented as primary doctrine. 1. We believe the Bible alone to be the inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of God. 2. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. STATEMENT OF FAITH 3. 4. We believe God created the universe by His power and word. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory. 5. We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely necessary. 6. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. 7. We believe that salvation is by grace through faith alone and that faith without works is dead. 8. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation. 9. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. 5
