New Season at The Hub<br />

Anew season of enterta<strong>in</strong>ment promises energetic stand<strong>in</strong>g<br />

gigs, a marvellous family exhibition, top-notch comedy,<br />

theatre and cabaret.<br />

The season kicks off with a fabulous free exhibition, Journey <strong>in</strong>to<br />

Marvel (8th Aug – 14th Oct). Get up close and personal with the<br />

characters we all know and love as we explore the <strong>in</strong>credible world<br />

of Marvel Comics. There’s a display of orig<strong>in</strong>al published pages, along<br />

with re-imag<strong>in</strong>ations of classic covers and some orig<strong>in</strong>al Marvel UK<br />

comics. There will also be workshops and themed activities for the<br />

whole family to enjoy.<br />

The Hub’s stand<strong>in</strong>g gigs have proved so popular that there’s more<br />

this autumn. The NE Street Band (15th Sept) offers a deep dive <strong>in</strong>to<br />

Bruce Spr<strong>in</strong>gsteen’s back catalogue; Alex Ohm’s New Sounds (13th<br />

Oct) celebrates the rich variety of up-and-com<strong>in</strong>g Midlands<br />

musicians; A Band Called Malice (27th Oct) delivers an authentic and<br />

energetic tribute to The Jam; and Chas<strong>in</strong>g Mumford (17th Nov)<br />

effortlessly capture the energy of the folk-rock festival sound – sure<br />

to delight Mumford fans and <strong>in</strong>die-folk lovers alike.<br />

Music and Christmas go hand <strong>in</strong> glove and we’ve l<strong>in</strong>ed-up<br />

someth<strong>in</strong>g for everyone’s musical tastes. Celebrate the magic of<br />

Christmas with A Holly Dolly Christmas (25th Nov), a sensational<br />

tribute to the legendary Dolly Parton; Familiarity (8th & 9th Dec), is<br />

a festive acoustic concert-come-theatre show with beautiful<br />

melodies, close harmonies and soulful renditions of folk <strong>in</strong>spired<br />

songs; The Highly Strung Quartet return to The Hub for Seasonal<br />

Str<strong>in</strong>gs (10th Dec), with plenty of Carols and popular festive pop hits.<br />

Expect some more well-known classics and festive favourites at the<br />

John Rutter Christmas Concert (17th Dec); and jo<strong>in</strong> live band Ruby<br />

Bridge for a festive night like no other at our Christmas Party Night<br />

(22nd Dec).<br />

Comedy and variety even<strong>in</strong>gs are back with a bang with the<br />

glittery comedy cabaret Flat and The Curves (16th Sept). This braburn<strong>in</strong>g<br />

even<strong>in</strong>g of mischief celebrates sex and sisterhood. Expect<br />

big voices and bold statements <strong>in</strong> this sparkly spectacle filled to the<br />

brim with hilarity and full-frontal vulgarity!<br />

The Hub’s very own Alter Comedy Club (27th Sept, 8th Nov &<br />

6th Dec) will br<strong>in</strong>g you more of the<br />

best award-w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g acts. Don’t miss<br />

out comedy fans – get your tickets<br />

booked! Also mak<strong>in</strong>g a welcome<br />

return are our ‘talk of the town’<br />

variety even<strong>in</strong>gs, #B<strong>in</strong>goHun (30th<br />

Sept & 2nd Dec) and Très Très<br />

Cabaret (28th Oct & 16th Dec) –<br />

br<strong>in</strong>g your friends for a fun-packed<br />

silly and saucy night out!<br />

If theatre is your th<strong>in</strong>g, Pepper and<br />

Honey (12th Oct), questions the<br />

mean<strong>in</strong>g of home. Written by a<br />

Croatian playwright and performed<br />

by a Croatian actor, it is timed to perfection <strong>in</strong> order to deliver a<br />

perfect Croatian pepper biscuit, as<br />

the live bak<strong>in</strong>g process is<br />

<strong>in</strong>tertw<strong>in</strong>ed with the story of what<br />

it’s like to settle <strong>in</strong> a new country.<br />

Piaf to Pop (21st Sept), is a sexy and<br />

delicious celebration of the<br />

development of French music from<br />

the Golden Age of French song to<br />

the Sw<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g Sixties, presented by<br />

award-w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g performer Christ<strong>in</strong>e<br />

Bovill.<br />

There’s also a literary moment <strong>in</strong><br />

October with two author talks.<br />

Disturbance (11th Oct) by Jenna<br />

Clarke was published earlier this year. ‘Propulsive and wry, this razorsharp<br />

debut twists witchcraft and horror <strong>in</strong>to a powerful narrative<br />

of one woman’s struggle to return to herself.’ There’s also Your Child<br />

is not broken, (19th Oct), is a no-holds barred account of parent<strong>in</strong>g<br />

neurodivergent children from Heidi Mavir.<br />
