Vale Mark ‘Blocker’ Houlder
Pittwater is mourning the passing of much-loved local
identity and Avalon Beach RSL Club President Mark
Houlder, who died overseas after a
short illness in late August.
“For those who have not heard the
news already, I’m extremely saddened
to advise that ‘Blocker’ passed
away while on holiday in Thailand,”
said Avalon Beach RSL Club General
Manager Cristo Tracy.
Mark, who was 62, was an Avalon
local from birth. He committed
his life to the community through
football, the surf club, his working MISSED: Mark Houlder.

“Mark’s involvement in the community from such a
young age never faltered and we can only thank our lucky
stars he was such a major part of Avalon,” said Mr Tracy.
Mark, always with a cheery face and kind demeanour,
was on the Avalon Beach RSL Club board for close to 40
years and was the Club President since 2011. He was also
honoured with a life membership at Avalon Beach RSL Club
in 2021.
He was also the longest serving captain of Palm Beach
Golf Club (seven years).
“Blocker was a friend to all, our members, board and
staff, past and current. Blocker will be forever missed and
in our hearts for our lifetime,” he said.
“Rest in Peace mate; we can’t wait to laugh with you again.”
