Happy Qubec owners move in
It’s taken a year longer than expected,
but Guy Fraser-Hills and his wife Sarn
are delighted to have finally moved
into their new Qubec apartment in
Beaconsfield Street, Newport.
The couple sold their family home
in nearby Prince Alfred Parade, where
they lived with their two children for 20
years, in April 2021 and purchased off
the plan in Qubec a few weeks later.
Sale of their home was completed
in September 2021, whereupon they
rented in Mona Vale until the expected
completion of their new apartment.
But then the
project’s builder
collapsed –
with 95% work
completed,
developer The
Stable Group’s
directors Ed
Horton and
Danny Flynn
stepped up to
complete the job.
Although

had to rent for

they are “over
the moon” with their new abode.
“It has certainly met or exceeded
every expectation,” Guy said. “It’s
different when it’s off the plan and
nothing has been turned on before but
the finishes and attention to detail of
the trades is excellent.”
Ed Horton explained the long road to
delivery.
“The construction industry in Australia
has suffered from unseasonal extreme
weather events over the past two years.
“Moreso, the effects of COVID-19
were far greater than the immediate
direct effects of shutdowns and
restricted work conditions.
“There have been extraordinary cost
increases in the construction sector. These
have greatly contributed to the demise
of many builders and sub-contractors –
many small and some large.
“The Qubec builder PBS was one of
those casualties, going under in March
2022.”
Guy added: “What Ed and Danny have
achieved after the builder went broke
has been great – to get control of the
site, regain the trust of the trades… it
has been remarkable.
Ed said Quebec was one of the most
smart and sustainable projects of its
type in the country.
“Each of the 18, three-bedroom
townhouses has its own internal elevator,
making it easy
for residents to
stay on, long
after their legs
give up climbing
stairs, and
most notably all
have their own
solar array and
battery energy
storage, which
contributes to
both lowering
energy costs
and providing
ease of
recharging EV
vehicles, with
EV chargers in
each garage,”
he said.
“The latest
in smart
technology
allows the
home to be
completely connected, with biometric
and Bluetooth door access through
to number plate recognition car park
entry and even voice control.”
Now there’s the opportunity to
secure the last remaining apartment
(#12) – with the benefit of viewing the
finished product in the completed
community, not off the plan.
