ALLALIN RACES
It’s the taking part that counts: at least, that’s sure to be
the mantra of many amateur racers who will tackle this
spectacular race course at the foot of the Allalinhorn on
12 and 13 April 2024. The glacier races set against a unique
backdrop are a unique skiing experience for both
participants and spectators.
The first Allalin Races took place in 1946. Back then, nine
young skiers took off from the summit of the 4,027-metre-high
Allalinhorn and dashed down to Saas-Fee, 2,227
metres below. Only five riders managed to make it to the
end of the unprepared course. Today, the race starts in
the ski resort and the course is well prepared before the
race.
However, with the course covering 9 km and 1,800
height difference, the course remains a challenge. The
fastest skiers will reach speeds of around 140 kilometres
per hour.
