Founder/Director Tommy Smith established
the SNJO in 1995 as a not-for-profit
organisation with a crystal clear artistic vision
and core values of versatility, discipline and
expression. The SNJO is dedicated to
promoting jazz as a pre-eminent art form
through performances, original compositions,
recordings, and educational outreach
programmes. This commitment extends to
the task of developing promising young jazz
musicians through the ranks of The Tommy
Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra.

PETER JOHNSTONE INTERNATIONAL
ORGAN QUARTET featuring TOMMY
SMITH & JOE LOCKE :: At The Royal
Conservatoire of Scotland, Glasgow. 1pm.
Award-winning keyboardist Peter Johnstone
leads an international group of jazz virtuosi
playing music that is rhythmically dynamic
and full of colour and expression. A former
Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year,
Johnstone was awarded a prestigious
Yamaha Scholarship and went on to win the
much-coveted Peter Whittingham Jazz Award
with the band Square One before establishing
himself as the Scottish National Jazz
Orchestra’s resident pianist. As an organist
his work with the trio Prime and with
saxophonist Paul Towndrow’s trio has earned
glowing reviews and his composing talents
have been admired internationally.
