US, including Joan Osborne, Declan O’Rourke
and Mary Chapin Carpenter. Fans of
Transatlantic Sessions can also see the
astonishing playing of Jerry Douglas, Stuart
Duncan and Ronan Browne in a frenzied
instrumental ‘Unionhouse Branch’ and Muireann
features alongside Ireland’s button accordion
extraordinaire Sharon Shannon as well as Jim
Murray on the beautiful Irish song ‘The Leaving

SATURDAY 28 OCTOBER
Na Worlds :: 9-11pm on BBC ALBA. Carrie
MacNeil introduces the brands competing at
Grade 1 in the World Pipe Band Championships
2023, aka Na Worlds. In this episode, sounds
and sights from the climactic second day of the
event are showcased with internationally
distinguished pipers and drummers from
Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Canada and
New Zealand taking part. Peoples Ford Boghall
and Bathgate Caledonia Pipe Band won the title
this year, led by Pipe Major, Ross Harvey and
Lead Drummer, Kerr McQuillan making this the
band’s first ever victory at The Worlds. St.
Laurence O’Toole, Scottish Power and Simon
Fraser University are amongst just some of the
bands featured.

Doyle and Andy Irvine perform “Liberty’s Sweet
Shore” and closing the programme, Darrell Scott
is joined by Paul Brady for a memorable
rendition of, “Shattered Cross” - a tribute to the
late Scottish musician and singer, Stuart
