The happy-hour event raised $60,000 for the purchase of a Life Support Ambulance for the Magen David Adom, Israel’s emergency medical service. Staenberg noted that The Factory gives $300 from each concert’s ticket sales to smaller nonprofits for which a smaller donation can do a great deal of good. “I remember we gave $700 to a food pantry in North St. Louis and they could serve an extra 1,000 people a year because they could buy a (restaurant-grade) cooler,” Staenberg said. “We just try to help people. Each of us have three Ts to share: time, talent and treasure. To sign up, people just need to enter their email on The Hub STL webpage (thedistrictstl.com/the-hub).” In the spring, we’re going to be looking to area high schools so that they can have their show choir performances on The Hub STL stage,” Petrowsky said. “Maybe we’ll have yoga on the green or performance during the day. Like today, we have teachers from the Francis Howell School District using the green for a team-bounding cornhole competition.” As cooler and even colder weather moves in, both Staenberg and Petrowsky think the popularity of the green will continue. “Oh absolutely,” Staenberg said. “We’re going to have heaters out there and we have fire pits as does 4 Hands.” For guests who aren’t fans of the cold, a new indoor venue for fun is getting ready to open between The Hub and The Factory. On Nov. 3, Game Show Battle Rooms come to town. A new concept for St. Louis, it’s already popular in Kansas City. “It’s going to be the coolest thing,” Petrowsky predicts. “They’re games shows like the branded ones you see on TV, but it’s your family and friends, or corporate partners who are the contestants.” The choice of game show category is up to the group but must be decided in advance when tickets are purchased. The available categories are Classic Showdowns and Prime Time Showdowns. Both feature hosts who lead the experience as if the games were live television. Classic Showdowns include Survey Battles, a friendly feud of the top four survey answers; Spin and Solve, in which contestants spin the wheel and solve the phrase; and What’s that Cost, which features name that price games and The Drop. Primetime Showdowns include Survey Battles along with MatchUp Wars, in which contestants predict their teammates’ answers, and Time Rush Games that consist of 60-second skill challenges. The battles are booked in 1-hour increments. Tickets are $35 per person. “What we’re trying to do is create an environment for the entire community,” Staenberg said. That concept means that businesses within The District are meant to be unique or uniquely local. It also means that the spaces yet to be filled will feature a variety that includes select retail and even office uses. Currently, The District features The Reverie event space; Performance Pilates; LIT cigar lounge; Phoenix Salon Suites, Arch Nemesis Brewing; The Gallery, which features artwork curated by Staenberg; House of Pain Gym; and the Main Event, which has games for all ages including bowling, escape rooms, indoor mini golf, virtual reality, laser tag and more. “What we’re really trying to do is have the demand filled by the people coming out here,” Staenberg said.
