A Huntsville, Texas, police officer who was shot multiple times while on duty two weeks ago was released from the hospital on Wednesday. The department held a reception and procession to welcome Sergeant Kyle Dockery back to the Huntsville Police Department on Oct. 25. Multiple agencies came together at the Huntsville Police Department to welcome Dockery back including the Sheriff’s Department, Emergency Medical Sgt. Kyle Dockery released from hospital Services, and the Fire Department. After Dockery was shot multiple times on October 12, the he was sent to a Conroe hospital for treatment of his critical condition wounds. While at the hospital for two weeks, Sergeant Dockery went through two surgeries to aid in his recovery that were both successful and helped him make his way home. “He’s got a way to go, obviously, with the recovery,” said Lt. Wade Roberts. “He suffered some pretty significant injuries that are going to take a while to recover from, but I know the community will continue to support him, I know we will continue to support him.” MAN WHO SHOT, KILLED CALIF. OFFICER CONVICTED OF FIRST-DEGREE MURDER By Joanna Putman, Police1 SALINAS, Calif. — A Salinas man has been convicted on all charges for the killing of Officer Jorge “JD” Alvarado, KSBW reported. Gustavo Morales shot and killed Alvarado on Feb. 25, 2022, during a traffic stop. Morales pulled over, immediately got out of his car and shot Alvarado while he was still in his patrol car, according to the report. Morales testified that he was acting in self-defense, thinking that Alvarado would have killed him if he had seen the loaded firearm in his car. “It was him or me. That’s how I saw the situation,” Morales said. “If I didn’t act in that moment, that was my last chance to save myself.” The prosecution testified that Morales was drunk driving on a suspended license, was on probation and was carrying a loaded gun. Morales was convicted of first-degree murder, shooting at an occupied motor vehicle, assault on a peace officer with a semiautomatic firearm, unlawful firearm possession and carrying a loaded firearm, according to the report. IDAHO OFFICER DIES AFTER ON-DUTY HEART ATTACK POST FALLS, ID. - Officer Nicholas McDaniel, 36, failed to respond to a status check from Post Falls Communications Center after completing a call for service. A Post Falls, Idaho, police died while on duty Sunday after experiencing what officials say was a massive heart attack. When officers arrived at Mc- Daniel’s last known location, they found him slumped over the wheel of his police vehicle. Officers started CPR then Kootenai County Fire and Rescue took him to Kootenai Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, KREM reports. Officer McDaniel had worked for Post Falls PD for a little under a year, with 13 years served previously in Hawaii. Officer Nicholas McDaniel dies from heart attack Sgt. Eric Kocheran receives Valor Award OHIO DEPUTY SEVERELY WOUNDED IN 2022 SHOOTING RECEIVES VALOR AWARD By Joanna Putman, Police1 COLUMBUS, OH — An officer who was shot in the chest while on duty last year received a Valor Award at the Ohio Law Enforcement Conference, the Ohio Attorney General’s Office reported. Sgt. Eric Kocheran was finishing his shift when a man knocked at the window of the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, according to the report. The man told him to go get more officers. When Kocheran asked him why, he claimed that someone threatened to hurt his family if he didn’t come to the station with a gun, seemingly to hurt officers. After Kocheran told him to put the gun down multiple times, his body camera footage shows the man firing at Kocheran. Kocheran returned fire and killed the man. The bullet bruised Kocheran’s heart, punctured his left lung and ended up in his liver. He underwent multiple surgeries and was in a medically induced coma. He is unlikely to ever return to duty, according to the report. Sheriff George W.
