After touring all three, comparing
the floor plans and reading
what seemed like thousands of
reviews (most of which were
negative on all three) I chose DR
Horton. First off, I’ve owned a
Horton home, and I don’t recall
having any major issues. Structurally
it was a solid home, and
the appliances and HVAC were
average and lasted longer than
expected. Overall, we enjoyed
living in the home for over 7
years before moving to a larger
home.
Second, Horton had a floor
plan I liked, with a 3-car garage,
larger bedrooms than the
other builders and a game room
and media room upstairs. Overall,
the home is smaller than
my current home, but seemed
roomier in the living area, with
an open kitchen, larger utility
room and did I mention a 3-car
garage. And the greatest feature

of all, was choosing an oversized
cul-de-sac lot that was situated
at the end of the street with a
green space on one side and an
oversized driveway. All in all, it
seemed like the perfect house,
on a great lot, on a small culde-sac,
in a great community. At
a price that fit my budget and a
low tax rate.
As far as the negative reviews,
I truly believe the difference
between having a home built the
way DR Horton himself would
want it done vs a shoddy build,
is up to the trades they use and
the Building Superintendent
who oversees them. If the super
is doing his job and overseeing
the build and catching any mistakes
along the way, you’ll have
a home with very few problems.
Having a Super who isn’t doing
his job, well anything is possible.
In my case, in this development,
Horton has some top-notch people
building good homes.
Finally, DR Horton, both the
man and his company, fully
support First Responders. Horton
even offers a $1000 discount off
the home as well as other incentives
depending on the area
you live in. (We’ll discuss incentives,
upgrades, and mortgages
in future segments of during
5-month process.) Since you
have a choice in builders, why
not choose one that supports
First Responders especially police
officers. DR Horton acknowledges
the sacrifices we make
daily and wants to build a home
your family feels safe in. In the
end, it was a no brainer.
I’d like to thank the fine folks
at DR Horton for their hospitality
and cooperation in this project
and my future home. We look
