Lansdowne goes up for sale
ONE OF Canterbury’s oldest
European building sites is on
the market.
Lansdowne at 132 Old Tai
Tapu Rd was created in the
1850s by William Guise Brittan,
a prominent pioneer colonist
who significantly contributed
towards the early development
of the Canterbury Settlement
and was an ancestor of Captain
Charles Upham VC & Bar.
When sold, the majority of
the sale proceeds will go to the
John Robert Godley Memorial
Trust in support of Cantabrian
heritage and arts.
Canty Uni student in court after
allegedly possessing weapons

A CANTERBURY University
student has appeared in court
after police allegedly found
offensive weapons in the halls of
residence.
But his lawyer has argued the
student, who has name suppression,
has been wrongfully
charged in relation to possession
of a restricted weapon, stressing
he faced no firearms charges.
