A Very Victorian Christmas<br />
at Cannon Hall Museum<br />
Steeped in Georgian<br />
splendour, the glorious<br />
setting of Cannon Hall<br />
Museum is even more<br />
magical at Christmas time as<br />
the former residence of the<br />
Spencer-Stanhope family is<br />
richly decorated in-keeping<br />
with Victorian traditions.<br />
Bah humbug! That old miser,<br />
Ebeneezer Scrooge, is back<br />
on Saturday 2nd and Sunday<br />
3rd <strong>Dec</strong>ember for his popular<br />
retelling of A Christmas Carol. Join<br />
Chris Cade for some audience<br />
participation in this heart-warming<br />
family performance as he journeys<br />
through his Christmases gone-by<br />
with the ghosts of his redemption to<br />
find that missing festive spirit. There<br />
will be four 30-minute sessions<br />
each day including a relaxed<br />
session at 12pm and two with a<br />
British Sign Language interpreter<br />
on the Saturday. Tickets are £3 per<br />
child and £6 per adult and must be<br />
booked in advance.<br />
Every weekend in <strong>Dec</strong>ember,<br />
have A Very Victorian Christmas<br />
as Santa stops by to meet the<br />
children of South Yorkshire. Hear<br />
the Christmas story as told by a<br />
Victorian nursery maid and play with<br />
traditional Victorian toys, followed<br />
by a chance to meet and receive<br />
a gift from Santa. Tickets are £15<br />
per child and must be booked in<br />
advance. There will be six time slots<br />
each day, with a relaxed session<br />
at 11am.<br />
For adults, there will be two<br />
festive wreath making sessions<br />
on Thursday 23rd <strong>Nov</strong>ember<br />
Shop around the Earl’s<br />
workshops at Elsecar<br />
For a unique Christmas<br />
shopping experience, visit<br />
Elsecar Heritage Centre<br />
this festive season to get all<br />
your shopping wrapped up<br />
in one.<br />
Once a thriving industrial<br />
ironworks run by the Earl<br />
Fitzwilliam of nearby Wentworth<br />
Woodhouse, today the historical<br />
workshops at Elsecar are filled<br />
with a range of independent<br />
retailers selling a variety of wares<br />
from clothing and shoes to gifts<br />
and Wednesday 6th <strong>Dec</strong>ember<br />
between 6pm-8pm priced at £47<br />
per person. Join a local florist<br />
to make your seasonal door<br />
display, with all materials and<br />
refreshments included.<br />
There will also be festive music<br />
played in the ballroom on Saturday<br />
16th <strong>Dec</strong>ember between 12pm-3pm<br />
to make your visit extra magical.<br />
Set in 70 acres of historic<br />
parkland and beautiful landscaped<br />
gardens, Cannon Hall Museum is<br />
the perfect place to enjoy a winter<br />
walk. There’s a fully accessible path<br />
and sweets.<br />
Take a break from shopping at<br />
the two on-site cafes, and there is<br />
also a beer shop where you can<br />
sample one of the many bottled or<br />
draught ales before you buy. The<br />
popular Earl’s Tipi will be open<br />
daily on Thursday 23rd <strong>Nov</strong>ember,<br />
with live music every Friday and<br />
Saturday night.<br />
And don’t forget you can find<br />
out more about the history of the<br />
site on a Reyt Royal Tour every<br />
Saturday and Sunday at 2pm,<br />
priced at £5 per adult.<br />
