I love Champagne, but other<br />

regions often get overlooked. It’s a shame<br />

because there’s great stuff coming out of places<br />

like South Africa and England.<br />

My recommendation is Lightfoot & Wolfville’s<br />

2016 Brut sparkling. It’s a vintage fizz made in the<br />

same way as Champagne using the Chardonnay<br />

grape. For any champers lovers,<br />

this will hit the spot as it’s full of<br />

complexity, refreshing acidity and<br />

has beautiful fruit notes.<br />

White<br />

Push aside Pinot Grigio for Italian<br />

Pinot Grigio is one of the most popular wines<br />

in the UK, with 59 million litres sold last year. It’s a<br />

tried and tested grape and wine style, but I think<br />

it’s time for a change.<br />

Nosiola is grown in Trentino, in the foothills of<br />

the Dolomite mountains. This wine is beautifully<br />

crisp and fruit forward. It sits as bit heavier in the<br />

mouth than Pinot Grigio and has lovely acidity<br />

which makes it great to pair with smoked salmon,<br />

if you fancy that for a festive starter.<br />
