Church bell rings again
EXCITEMENT: The replacement bell at St Mary’s Anglican
Church was dedicated on Sunday by Reverend John
Shoaf, and rung for the first time by the church’s oldest
parishioner, Patsy Restieaux.
• By Sasha Watson
THE BELL is ringing again
at St Mary’s Anglican Church
in Halswell, more than a year
after the original bell was
stolen.
The replacement bell was
dedicated on Sunday by
Reverend John Shoaf and was
rung for the first time by the
church’s oldest parishioner,
Patsy Restieaux.
The ring of the original
154-year-old bell was a
familiar sound to Patsy, who
was baptised, confirmed and
married at the church.
Said Shoaf: “The new
bell came originally from
a Presbyterian church in St
Andrews, in South Canterbury,
through the help of the
reverend Indrea Alexander,
formerly of the Waimate
Anglican parish.
“It was great to have the
bell ringing again, and the
congregation gathered outside
the church following the
10.30am service to witness and
hear the first official ringing –
everyone was very excited.
“Several of the children from
our Sunday school rang it.”
Patsy and family made a
donation to the church to cover
the cost of new fittings on the
bell and the installation, which
was completed by Rodger
Vickers of RSV Consulting
Ltd and Stephan Kennedy of
Kennedy Engineering.
“We hope and pray that the
sound of the bell will call the
faithful to church, and also
encourage those who do not
yet know Jesus Christ to come
and see,” said Shoaf.
The original 100kg bell
was cast in bronze with a
wrought iron clapper, made by
J. Warner and Sons, and was
inscribed with the words: “St
Mary’s Halswell, gift of friends
at home 1868.”
Social media,
crime link
revealed in
youth survey
• By Sasha Watson
MORE THAN 300 youth from
Hornby have responded to a
survey regarding their concerns
about social media, youth
offending, and mental health,
respectively.
Family service provider Te
Whare Awhero sent out the Youth
Voice Project survey in October
with the aim of discovering how
the adults of Hornby can best support
the younger population.
The survey asked seven key
questions, ranging from the role
of social media in the lives of
students, to the pressures they feel
and how this impacts their lives.
The results showed from 319
responses, more than 85 per cent
of students in years 7 to 10 engage
with social media
and more than half
of year 8 to year
10 students engage
with four plus
platforms.
“It indicates that
Carey
Ewing
social media is not
a niche activity,
but a mainstream
part of their lives,” said Te Whare
Awhero director Carey Ewing.
The connection between
social media and exposure to
criminal activity was explored
in the survey, with 58.5 per cent
of year 7 and 8 students and 46
per cent of year 9 and 10 students
reporting exposure to videos of
criminal activity, crimes being
committed, fights or ram raids.
Projects to be ‘better off’ after funding
• By Sasha Watson
MORE THAN $90,000 has
been allocated to go towards
the improvement of community
projects.
The money, approved by the
Waimāero Fendalton-Waimairi-
Harewood Community Board,
will help fund tennis court upgrades,
a water system upgrade,
shade sail instalments and a
restoration project.
$15,000 has been allocated to
go towards replacement costs
of the four astroturf courts at
Burnside Tennis Club, $10,000
to the Burnside Bowling Club for
the upgrade of its water system,
and $18,400 is to be transferred
to the city council’s park unit to
purchase two shade sails as part
of the Westburn Reserve renewal
project.
The final approved funding of
$50,000 will go to the Friends
of the Christchurch Botanical
Gardens towards its fundraising
campaign to restore the Mona
Vale bathhouse.
Councillor Sam MacDonald
said he was pleased local projects
would be receiving some of the
funding.
“When the previous government
announced Three Waters
was happening, they gave us a
pot of money known as ‘Better
Off’ funding. We, as a council,
IN WITH THE NEW: $18,400 will fund two shade sails as part of the Westburn Reserve renewal project, and Burnside
Tennis Club has been awarded $15,000 towards the replacement of its astroturf courts.
decided to split some of this off
to each community board to
support projects.”
Better-off Funding is part of
the Three Waters Reform process.
The central government has
set aside $2 billion nationwide
for councils to use to improve
amenities and outcomes for
residents.
The city council was allocated
$30.61 million in the “Better
Off Funding” tranche one, with
a further $91.82 million to be
allocated in tranche two next
year.
Recipients of the funding have
started to plan how and when
the money will be used.
While the restoration of the
Mona Vale Bath House has no
start date as of yet, Friends of the
Christchurch Botanical Gardens
committee member Jeanette
Christensen said the director of
the gardens has already organised
the rescoping of the area in
order to figure out what needs to
be done.
“We’re looking to put semitropical
plants in along with
a water feature and seats. It’s
a beautiful heritage building,
and it will be very nice once it’s
finished,” said Christensen.
Burnside Bowling Club committee
member Alan Bryce, said
the upgrades “will be completed
after the end of the current season”,
which will be around the
May/June period next year.
Said Burnside Park Tennis
club committee member Gillian
Smeith: “Three of the Burnside
tennis courts have already been
resurfaced, and the fourth is
to be completed in a fortnight
which will be suited to pickleball
too – apparently it’s the next big
thing.”
Kim Swarbrick, parks and
recreation planner, said that the
construction of the shade sails
will begin mid-next year.
The Waipuna Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton
Community Board
will spend their funding on a
patrol car.
“The board has approved
$22,500 in Better Off funding
for one project – which is to be
used to help fund a patrol car for
Hornby patrol,” said chair Helen
Broughton.
“We are breaking the funding
up into equal parts for each of
the three wards, but this is the
first project to be officially gratified.”
Papanui Ward chair Emma
Norrish said: “The Waipapa
Papanui-Innes-Central
Community Board will likely
have its meeting to decide its
Better Off Funding allocations
next year.”
Due to unforeseen circumstances we had to sell a property at a time when
the market was not favorable. It is times like that where an agent with
Cameron’s experience and expertise is worth their salt. Unphased by what the
student who has developed a
style of learning where he fully
engages in the content and extends
his knowledge into every aspect
possible. An example of this is his
interest in Halley’s Comet – which
came as a result of a comets
lesson in Mathematics. Johnny has
arranged to meet other students
in 2061 when the comet next passes by Earth. His humble and
quiet demeanour are somewhat a cloak to the genius of the
academic excellence that lies beneath, with classmates and
teachers alike, fully aware of his capabilities. He is described as
being dedicated, diligent, thoughtful, determined and thorough.
This year Johnny has been an Academic Leader and Mentor
and an active organiser of Gifted and Talented activities. He has
also successfully participated in numerous competitions with
his passion for success and solving problems hugely evident.
His internal results this year are exclusively at Excellence level to
form part of the 264 Excellence credits he has earned in NCEA.
This year he is holding an A+ average in his Computer Science
and Mathematics papers at Canterbury University where he
plans to continue his studies in 2024 with in excess of $15 000
of scholarships. At our awards evening he placed First Place
in Physics, First Place in Calculus, Excellence in Chemistry and
Excellence in Mathematics with Statistics, as well as a Noeline
Clark Scholarship to UC.
William is an outstanding multiinstrumentalist
and composer
who has been a member of the
Specialist Music Programme and has
contributed to the department at the
highest level for five years.
He has achieved great success in
the chamber music contest, being a
member of the winning brass group
on two occasions, but it is in the field
of Jazz that he is most focused. He
has won numerous awards as the
most outstanding trombonist, pianist
and best overall musician at the ARA Jazz Quest competition, as
well as being a member of the winning combo in that event on
three occasions. William has picked up similar awards at both the
Southern Jam and Tauranga Jazz Festival.
He has been a member of the Burnside Big Band for five years,
leading the trombone section with energy and flair for the last
three years, inspiring his peers with his exciting and inventive
improvisation, and winning numerous awards along the way. He is
also the trombone section leader for the CYJO.
William has enjoyed further success in the last two years, winning
hotly contested prizes for both improvisation and composition at
the national Young Jazz Band-it competition.
Devan is an exceptional student
who is PASSIONATE about learning,
is confident and forthright, and
is massively respected by fellow
students and staff for his academic
rigour. This student’s love of
problem solving and learning spills
over to his hobbies which include
Chess and Strategy games. Devin
has been an amazing Academic Leader and Tutor and is hugely
generous in his sharing of his time and knowledge. He is the
Captain of the Chess club and has been involved in co-leading
several gifted and talented activities and events. Devin has
amassed nine Course Endorsements at Excellence Level, Level 1
and 2 Certificates endorsed with Excellence and he has already
passed two NZQA Scholarship exams last year. At this point, he
already has 80 Level 3 credits - at Excellence level and has five
scholarship entries in the upcoming examinations. This is on
top of the 100 level university papers he has sat this year where
grades of 97-98% can pose some level of disappointment. In
2024, his plans are to go on to the University of Canterbury where
he has been offered scholarships to study Financial Engineering.
The future looks bright indeed for this young person as they
embark on life beyond Secondary School. Throughout his time at
Survey prompts community to discuss
how to better support young people
• From page 1
Seventy-two per cent of those
respondents reported knowing
the perpetrators of the crimes
they had witnessed.
One student, aged 17,
responded to the survey question,
“What role does social media
play in your life?” saying, “social
media is s**t and not healthy,
it needs to be regulated or
monitored for under 18s”.
Another student, 15, answered
the same question with: “It’s a
way to share life experiences and
communicate with one another.”
Eighty-five per cent of the
students responded to questions
with an emphasis on the critical
importance of support and wellbeing,
and 70 per cent desired
less pressure and expectations
from adults and society to allow
room for personal growth.
Said a student in year 7: “Life
would be better if adults knew
that it just gets harder and harder
at school the older you get,
that pressures increase and it
sometimes feels too much.
“That the pressures come from
school, teachers, parents, family
and community to be something
– to do this, to do that. I just need
support.”
Said Ewing: “75 per cent of
respondents shared that when
adults actively listen to their
ideas, opinions and feelings,
it validates their experiences
and perspectives and makes
them feel valued and respected,
enhancing their self-esteem and
self-expression.”
Other answers related to peer
influences include concerns
of substance abuse, loneliness,
safety concerns and gaps in
understanding each other.
Said Ewing: “The survey
highlights the modern
challenges of school life. The
recurring theme of mental
health underscores the urgency
of addressing this critical issue
among the youth. Initiatives
promoting mental health
awareness and access to resources
are key.”
Ewing said it was evident
the role of social media “plays
various roles in the lives of
youth” including entertainment,
emotional management,
communication, and both
“helpful and unhelpful aspects”.
Said Ewing: “As we navigate
the complexities of modern
society, it is imperative to provide
a platform for the voices of our
youth to be heard.”
Following the survey results,
Te Whare Awhero with Hornby
High School, CDN Trust, The
Graeme Dingle Foundation and
Hornby Youth Trust will be
hosting a meeting from 7pm on
November 29 at Hornby Club to
discuss the findings.
“The students told us they
actually want interactions
with trusted adults, to spend
time and connect to the wider
community,” said Ewing.
“The focus of the hui is to
encourage adults to take the
time to invest in relationships
with the young people around
them.”
Said Wigram MP Megan
Woods, who will be closing the
meeting: “Growing up has a lot
of pressure, a lot of stresses and is
complicated: we need to talk with
our youth.
“This meeting will be a great
opportunity to build on the work
of the Hornby community and
organisations who have already
put in the time to begin to
understand their needs.”
Youth affairs city councillor
Tyla Harrison Hunt will MC
the meeting, with speakers
including youth health advocate
Dame Sue Bagshaw, Hornby
High School youth leaders, and
support providers.
• The meeting is free to
attend and will be held
Christmas gifts sought for those
sleeping rough or in foster care
• By Sasha Watson
IT’S THE TIME of year for
holiday cheers and giving,
and the Halswell Community
Project’s Christmas tree
collections are now under way.
This year, the not-for-profit
organisation has partnered
with three agencies: Ngā Maihi
(Steppingstones Trust/Odyssey
House/Purapua Whetu), Open
Home Foundation and City Mission
Outreach, to help spread a
little Christmas joy.
“The Christmas Giving Tree is
something we have done for the
last few years to support people,
although we support various
groups throughout the year too
through our regular collections,”
said project manager Kate Cleverly.
“The groups are generally recommended
to us by members of
our community or our networks
so it varies from year to year.”
Ngā Maihi is an intervention
for people aged between 16 and
24, who have been in Oranga
Tamariki or Youth Justice care
SHARING THE LOVE: The Halswell Community Project is
accepting presents for its annual Christmas Giving Tree.
for 90 days or more at any point
in their lives and require support
to transition into adulthood.
Open Home Foundation works
with children in respite or foster
care, with its cornerstone value
for every child and young person
growing up to be in a secure,
loving family and receive appropriate
care.
The City Mission Outreach
team works with people sleeping
rough on the streets, to look after
them, help them into housing
or emergency accommodation,
and connect them with different
services to get their lives back on
track.
Cleverly said the project was
looking for donations of any
new items, including portable
radios and batteries, sunscreen,
water bottles (300ml packs),
tramping packs or backpacks,
baseball caps or wide-brimmed
hats, sunglasses, flasks, lip balm
or zinc, waterproof ponchos and
summer-appropriate clothing.
Toiletry packs containing
shampoo, conditioners, sanitary
items, deodorant, toothbrushes
and paste, cotton buds, body
wash, soap, hairbrushes, razors,
hair ties and shaving cream are
also appreciated.
Said Cleverly: “Any vouchers to
purchase household or bedding
items are also needed.
“This year, Open Home have
a few younger children around
eight years of age, but mostly
teenagers. Donations of anything
for the teenage group would be
hugely appreciated, along with
toys, books or games for the 5-12
age group.
“Thank you to the community
for all your help and support
– donations of all items are
very much appreciated. We do
ask that all items be new only,
please.”
• Drop-offs can be
made to the Halswell
Toy library initiates drive for contributions
SUSTAINABLE PLAY: Robbie Wordsworth having fun at the
Halswell Toy Library.
• By Sasha Watson
THE HALSWELL Toy Library
may have more than 100
members and 800 toys, but it
needs more volunteers to help
sustain its service.
The library has also planned a
Christmas toy drive to help raise
funds and drive up membership.
It is accepting donations of
unwanted toys, games and
puzzles in good condition.
Said media and marketing
committee member Jo Gilbert:
“We’ll keep ones that are good
for the library and they’ll be
hired out, while the others
will be sold at our event on 9
December.
“They would be perfect as a
cheap present to give to a child
who needs them and its a nice
way to wrap up the end of the
year for the library.”
The charitable community
service is looking for at least
five more volunteers or “duty
members” who can spare a few
hours each year to help with
tasks like counting and packing
away toys, and cleaning and
adding toys to the mix.
Said library president Gemma
Wistrand: “We’re looking for
anyone with any spare time
and a sense of initiative to help
us spread the load around. You
don’t need to have any specific
skills, just a willingness to help
out.”
Duty members can join the
library for $60 a year, while
members who do not sign
up for the duty roster pay
$120 annually.
Wistrand said many people
don’t know the toy library is
“just like a regular library, only
for toys” and their catalogue of
playthings is online.
Said Gilbert: “Our community
of more than 24,000 residents
(figure from 2018) is one of the
fastest growing in New Zealand,
with almost 20 per cent of
residents aged under 15 years old.
“Thus, there are loads of people
in our community who could
benefit from our service, but we
have only about 100 members.”
The library is a non-profit
community service run by a
voluntary committee. It provides
good quality toys for hire for
children 6 months to 10 years
old.
Being reminded about Christmas
deadlines is so terribly annoying.
You have 6 weeks.
Refugees gain tech skills
• By Sasha Watson
TEN REFUGEES from Afghanistan,
Eritrea and Somalia have started learning
how to use and navigate technology, with
the help of Hagley College and TechMate.
The adult students were given eight
laptops by charity TechMate to start
a basic beginner computer skills
programme on Tuesday evenings at the
college.
Diversity services manager Anne
Galloway said the donations would be a
big help.
“Many former refugees and migrants
have no financial resources to buy laptops
and devices. They often have children
at home and all want to have a good
education,” she said.
“Often, they don’t know how to access
any information on the device either. No
device and no knowledge of how to use
devices is a barrier.”
Hagley College has a range of
programmes for supporting and
furthering the education and employment
of refugee background learners and new
migrants, including maths, english, health
studies, driving and
languages.
Said TechMate
community co-ordinator
Vanessa Simpson: “This
is a lovely thing to be
involved with, knowing
that we are helping,
supporting, and making a
difference in people’s lives.
“Without a laptop,
Vanessa
Simpson
refugees would not be able to learn or, just
as importantly, communicate with their
family members who are still overseas.”
Simpson has been working with the
charity for about a year. It offers free
lessons, laptop refurbishments, repairs
and digital inclusion to those in need.
It has given away just under 160
laptops this year, made possible through
a partnership with Recycle A Device.
The company restores laptops that would
otherwise go to landfill and diverts them
to volunteers for repurposing.
A Vet ConferenCe
& CAMBoDIA
Recently Steve, our eldest son Connor
and I had the opportunity to attend the
Singapore vet conference and then travel to
Cambodia to catch up with a vet friend and
experience the cuisine, culture and unique
sites of Siem Reap.
Singapore vet conference
I’d never experienced Singapore before and
it was quite unbelievable in many ways.
Very clean and tidy, well organised with
high rise appartments and commercial
buildings covering the landscape. Loads of
upmarket boutique stores, so much choice
with food, just an easy place to live I’d
imagine.
The conference was fun. Most entertaining
were the medicine lectures with David
Church and his wife Jill Maddison.
A power couple that just know it all.
I was so impressed I introduced myself as
a die hard fan over the years (I listen to
their vet podcasts) and purchased their
text “Clinical Reasoning”. I also enjoyed
the Dentistry, Oncology, Surgical and
Behavioural lectures. Lots of take home
points to put into action at MMH vets.
Highlights of Singapore had to be the
Botanical gardens,
cocktails in the
rooftop pool,
clothes shopping
for Connor and
discovering
a Chilean
Chardonnay…..
and the “Jewel”.
WOW.
Next stop Siem
Reap. We were
The Jewel in
Singapore airport
Singapore at night
the first ever flight
to arrive in to the
brand new airport
built by the Chinese. Lots of important
officials shaking our hands, drapping us in
scarves and taking photos. Quite Surreal.
Siem Reap was
nothing like i’d
imagined. So
much hustle
and bustle on
the dirt roads
with motorbikes
jammed full of
families and Tuk
Tuks weaving
in and out. Rice
fields were dotted
all over, and it was
really colourful,
with bright
houses, clothing
and road side stalls. Cambodians are
Angkor Wat Temples
generally a smiley, friendly, helpful people.
I fell in love with them.
Ta Prohm
temple
where
Indiana
Jones
was
filmed
The Apopo rats
They made our
holiday so much
better as they were
our tour guides
when we visited the
Kulen Elephants,
the Angkor Wat
temples, a city food
tour and the Apopo
rats that detect the
hidden landmines
(fabulous clever
little creatures).
There was so much
to learn about the
culture, their politics, arranged marriages
and the wars they have lived through.
My Friend has a vet practice, so we visited
and got some glimpses of what its like to
treat all animals in a 3rd World country,
with virtually
no diagnostic
equipment
in clinic and a
sparce amount of
drugs. Saw some
unforgettable
cases. We also
fell in love with
the cuisine,
exquisite tastes,
presentation and
Steve blood sampling
at Trish’s clinic
price of food.
Saw many
street animals,
packs of dogs
and lone cats, moving free range through
the city, like to gather at intersections. All
looked happy, well fed and healthy. Didn’t
approach me which was probably a good
thing as I would have needed to befriend
them…….Rabies risk intensified! The cows
grazing where ever they pleased also
looked content and well cared for.
Was great fun for Steve and I travelling with
Connor and attending a vet conference
together. We all have our different interest
areas and we love discussing lectures, cases
and devising future plans. I think another
family holiday to Asia is in order one day,
with all 3 sons in tow ( maybe partners too).
I just want to wish all MMH readers a safe,
healthy, sunny Christmas and summer
holidays, enjoying special fun times with
family and friends. See you again in 2024
where I will be writing in The Star.
UNEXPECTED WINDFALL: The Coniston Ave property was
well presented and attracted families and those wanting to
live close to the university.
PHOTOS: NZ HERALD
Auction battle leaves couple $252k richer
• By Nikki Preston
THE OWNER of a fourbedroom,
two-bathroom home
in Ilam got an unexpected
windfall when their home sold
under the hammer for $1.202m
– $252,000 more than what they
were banking on.
The brought-forward auction
for the four-bedroom,
two-bathroom brick home on
Coniston Ave at the Harcourts
Gold auction room attracted six
bidders who battled it out for
the property.
Bidding opened at $950,000,
which was the price the owners
had accepted and moved the
auction ahead of schedule, but
it continued for
several hundred
thousand dollars
more.
Harcourts
Grenadier salesperson
Andrew
Steel said by the
time it reached
around the
Andrew
Steel
$1.1m mark there were just two
bidders left fighting for it.
“As it was between the two
there was a bit of toing and froing
and then it hit the $1.2m, and
the other party ended up paying
a couple of thousand more, and
that just closed it off.”
The home seemed to hit a
sweet spot with buyers, he
said, and they even held an impromptu
open home after it was
listed because of all the interest
it received. The first open home
attracted 12 groups and then
another 48 groups viewed it over
the first weekend of open homes.
The home was well-presented
and the owners had done their
homework by getting all the
information such as building
reports ready for prospective
buyers.
But neither he or the owner
had anticipated the house would
sell for $1.202m.
“The surprise was the result.
But I had intimated to people
where I saw values, but it just
went north of that. It was well
above the vendor’s expectations
because they had already
accepted $950,000 so they were
happy to sell at $950,000,” said
Steel.
The main interest in the
property was from people who
were looking at it as a family
home or parents who were
buying it for their children to live
in and attend university.
“Not treating it as a varsity flat,
but that they could get to varsity
because it was not that far away.”
Latest Lexus RZ strong and purposeful
THE RZ 450e is the second
Lexus to go fully electric and
follows in the footsteps of the
compact UX SUV launched here
Its twin, the bZ4X, is the first
all electric Toyota, and goes on
sale from early next year. The
Lexus version beats it onto our
market by about six months.
While new here, this model has
been available for some time
overseas including the USA.
Toyota offers two models
– the Front-wheel drive Pure
Motoring with Bob Nettleton
for $72,990 with a $10k price
premium slapped on the AWD
Motion. The considerably more
expensive RZ is a two-model
affair leading off with the
$141,600 Core lined up for this
road test. There’s an extra $10k
hit on your wallet for the flagship
Dynamic. The company is
accelerating its EV development
and aims to have a full range of
Battery Electric Vehicles across
the entire Lexus range by 2030.
Because this model is built on
a new e-TNGA platform, it gives
Lexus the flexibility to
create a range of vehicles
with different motor
sizes, battery types and
drive systems. The thin,
high-capacity 71.4kW/h
battery pack is placed flat
under the floor, to achieve
a low centre of gravity.
The approximate driving
range is 470km using the
overly optimistic New European
Driving Cycle (NEDC). Most
owners will struggle to achieve
that sort of range in every day
driving
Both RZ 450e variants use new
eAxle technology integrating the
transaxle, motor generator and
inverter with a mighty 230kW
total output (150kW front and
80kW rear motor). The test car’s
performance was strong and
purposeful and with plenty of
that to draw on when needed,
to spirit this fairly large and
chunky SUV along in impressive
fashion. Drive in the pace and
purpose space for prolonged
periods, which is easy enough to
do given the exhilarating driving
experience, and the EV range
quickly evaporates.
Throttle response is swift
enough to mow down the 0 to
100km/h sprint in less than seven
seconds. The instant acceleration
of the electrified system makes
most conventional engines seem
lethargic. It’s remarkable to think
all the vehicle’s electrified thrust
is superbly managed by a single
speed automatic that operates
with relentless accuracy and
Ratings out of 10: Performance 7; Handling 7; Build
Quality 8; Comfort 7; Passenger and Load Space 8; Value
for money 6; Safety – Five Star EuroNCAP crash rating.
Qualifies for a $7015 clean vehicle rebate until Dec 31, 2023.
Overall points out of 10: 7.5
precision.
A spacious cabin offers an
abundance of practical and
usable passenger and cargo space.
Instruments and controls are
designed with trademark Lexus
attention to detail, and perfectly
positioned so they are easy for
the driver to read and use.
This is Lexus New Zealand’s
first dedicated electric battery
model and is also the first
vehicle to score a maximum
five stars against the recently
updated Australasian New Car
Assessment Program (ANCAP)
protocols, the strictest safety
testing ever in Australia and New
Zealand.
The RZ features a range of
safety measures that includes
frontal, side, and curtain airbags,
as well as a knee airbag for the
front seats. A centre airbag,
standard across all variants,
provides added protection to
front seat occupants in side
impact crashes
A high-voltage battery parked
up in the floor between the axles
ensures a low centre of gravity,
which has a positive impact
on the vehicle’s agility and
cornering.
I liked the even-natured ride
and handling, and its cool, calm
and composed management
of the unrelenting rigours and
demands of our roads, terrain
and weather.
The test vehicle’s mettle
and resolve both received a
thorough examination over some
challenging rural gravel roads. It
had to endure what were at times
a constant barrage of bruising
bumps and potholes, and
confidently front footed it all.
Both ride comfort and
handling were hard to fault,
and underline just some of the
qualities that are making Lexus
one of the fasted growing luxury
brands in New Zealand.
