Progress on I-49 South
Acadiana’s top infrastructure project, I-49 South, has strong community support. May 17 was proclaimed
“I-49 South Day” by Governor Edwards and the Louisiana Legislature. A poll commissioned in late 2016 showed
84 percent of likely voters believe completing I-49 South is important to the future of Lafayette Parish.
One Acadiana and I-49 South Coalition joined Gov. John Bel
Edwards, DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson, Sen. Bret Allain, Rep.
Sam Jones, and other key transportation stakeholders from
across the state to receive an update on progress and view
the construction site for the interchange of future I-49 South
and LA 318 in St. Mary Parish.
I-49 South Coalition
takes case to Capitol
Louisiana’s I-49 South Coalition may be focused on filling the
remaining gaps between Lafayette and New Orleans,
but advocates said the “Energy Corridor” and its significance
stretches all the way to Canada.
“This isn’t just about I-49 South,” said coalition Chairman David Mann, of Lafayette. “It’s bigger than that.
This is about a critical corridor that goes all the way to Winnipeg.”
“It has local, state, national and international significance,” said Jason El Koubi, CEO of One Acadiana.
We advocated across multiple channels, including
a commercial, for the completion of this project.
