A L I G N E D T O L E A D 2016 was a year of significant new challenges and opportunities for Acadiana and Louisiana. Through it all, One Acadiana’s Board and staff have worked energetically to advance our ambitious mission: to be the leading force in the improvement of the business environment, economic health, and development of the region. To that end, we’ve made great strides to solidify our operations and results, cultivate regional cohesion among our nine parishes, and position the Acadiana region as a more attractive location for capital investment and growth. Leveraging the findings of our Target Industry Strategy, we’ve worked with state and local partners to secure multiple economic development projects in 2016 that resulted in millions in new investment and hundreds of new jobs for Acadiana. Furthermore, we are creating new landing pads for business in our region, with a roughly 250 percent increase in high-quality, development-ready site acreage in 2016 alone. At the same time, we’ve done more than ever before to engage our nearly 1,200 investors, members, and partners. You’ve commissioned us to be proactive and nimble – and we are doing just that by responding quickly to the needs of the regional business community. From connecting laid-off oilfield workers with job opportunities through multiple career fairs and AcadianaOpportunity.com; to collaborating with partners to create a coalition to advocate for the most consequential and complex regional infrastructure project in our modern history: the I-49 Lafayette Connector; to launching a best-in-class website to market the assets of Acadiana to business decision-makers and site selectors, we are delivering results. We end 2016 with a deep sense of gratitude to the business and civic leaders who have committed their leadership and financial support to make One Acadiana – and our important mission – a reality. In the year ahead, we will remain “Focused on Forward” knowing there is much to be optimistic about: Public school districts across Acadiana are steadily improving, providing more attractive education options for our families and encouraging economic growth. We’ll be rolling out a new workforce development strategy to better connect our people with current and future job opportunities. We are better positioned to achieve our #1 priority of completing I-49 South from Lafayette to New Orleans, which will provide a vital national link for “America’s Energy Corridor” and provide a game-changing investment for the Lafayette area. And our state’s fiscal challenges also offer opportunities for long-needed reforms that would provide a more predictable, growth-oriented environment. By working together, we will continue generating results against the core strategies of The Campaign for One Acadiana. Thanks to your leadership and support, we are prepared to help write a bold, new chapter in the success story of Acadiana.
