hat a player. What a season. For Josh
Bohannon, the most recent summer could have
hardly gone better. And the great news is that
Lancashire will be seeing a lot more of one of English
Cricket’s brightest batting talents after he recently
extended his contract to remain at Emirates Old
Trafford until at least the end of 2026.
Let us list his personal
achievements.
Bohannon was the leading
run-scorer in Division One
of the LV= Insurance County
Championship, amassing
1,257 runs from 22 innings
at an average of 59.85 with
four hundreds. His nearest
challenger was Essex captain
Tom Westley with 1,130 to his
name. The former England
man, however, gained his
runs from five more innings.
Bohannon, 26-years-old,
was in fact the second
leading run-scorer cross
the entire Championship.
Durham’s Alex Lees topped
the overall chart with 1,347
runs in a Division Two titlewinning
campaign.
The Red Rose man was
therefore named as the
club’s Hilton County
Championship player of the
year and also the CMS Law
men’s player of the year, the
latter award voted for by the
members and supporters.
“I suppose every trophy is
really nice, but the fact it’s
been voted for by those
people makes it more
touching,” said the product
of the Farnworth Social
Circle club in Bolton. “For
me, it gave me that closure
on what’s been a really
good year for myself. To
pick up that award was a
proud moment.”
But for Bohannon - or Bosh
to use his nickname - there’s
no I in Team. He’s a man
with his eyes on more
important prizes, and the fact
Lancashire fell short means
there is obvious room for
improvement. The Red Rose
finished fifth in Division One
added to qualifying for the
knockout stages of both
limited overs competitions,
the Vitality Blast and the
Metro Bank One-Day Cup.
“If you looked at where
we finished, you’d say we
IT GAVE ME
THAT CLOSURE
ON WHAT’S
BEEN A REALLY
GOOD YEAR
FOR MYSELF.
TO PICK UP
THAT AWARD
WAS A PROUD
MOMENT
