t the end of her maiden summer, Spin Magazine
sat down with the 29-year-old to discuss her
start to life in Manchester - which culminated in
being named Thunder Player of the Season at
Lancashire Cricket’s annual End of Season Awards.
SPIN: Overall, how would
you assess your first
season here at Thunder?
FM: With the performances
we’ve put in throughout
this summer as a Thunder
team, I see no reason why
we can’t push for trophies
in both formats next year.
I’m really confident that next
year could be our year. We’ve
performed well with bat and
ball a lot more this season.
Now, moving forwards, it’s
about marrying them together
more often. That consistency
is what you need.
SPIN: Paul Shaw, the
Head Coach who brought
you to Thunder last year,
announced that he is
moving on at the end of
the season. What was your
reaction to the news?
FM: I want to put on record a
massive thank you to Shawsy
for everything he’s done
for Thunder and myself. I
wouldn’t be playing cricket
if it wasn’t for him taking a
chance on me and bringing
me up here last winter. I’ve
been fairly successful this
year, and a lot of it is down
to him. A lot of his work is
behind the scenes, and it can
sometimes get overlooked.
SPIN: With a new Head
Coach set to come in, what
sort of place will they find
Thunder in, following the
hard work done by Paul
and his coaching staff
over the last few years?
FM: Paul Shaw has laid
the foundations, and a lot of
good work is being done.
We’re in a good place to
build from. There are
things which can be added,
that’s the case with any
side. And with a new coach
coming in, there will a fresh
perspective. But we’ve said
as a playing group that the
new coach doesn’t really
need to change a great deal
about what we’re doing.
We’re heading in the right
direction, and it’s just that
little extra push that we need.
SPIN: What are your
standout moments from
the 2023 season? It felt
like we saw the Thunder
squad made great progress
on the field this summer.
FM: There are so many
positives to reflect on this
year. Making Finals Day in
the Charlotte Edwards Cup -
our first one - was a massive
highlight. We had a poor start
