“I’m not a massive stats man, but to finish with that weight of runs was pleasing.” Bohannon’s consistency over the last few years in Championship cricket has been outstanding. Post Covid, so from the start of 2021, he has averaged exactly 50 across 46 appearances, including the Bob Willis Trophy final defeat against Warwickshire at Lord’s at the end of the 2021 summer. He has scored 3,200 runs with 14 fifties and nine centuries. “I’ve made massive changes over the last couple of years in terms of state of mind stuff,” he continued, “The one thing I’ve got better at is understanding it’s not always going to be perfect. My practice is very different to other people’s as well, and I suppose I’ve learnt what I need to do to be able to go and play. “Providing I’ve done everything I need to do to get ready, the rest of it is the game just panning out as it is. Some days, you can get a good ball, other days you can get yourself out. “It’s just about being able to stay level-headed and understand that the game ebbs and flows and take the rough with the smooth.” Bohannon’s form in that format is the main reason why he has been handed a new long-term deal to stay with his home county, and it is why he is thought highly of by the England selectors who have had him in their Lions set-up for some time now. He is due to travel to the United Arab Emirates for a three-week training campaign before Christmas. He hasn’t been able to make the step up to senior level, though surely it is matter of when and not if. On the new contract, he enthused: “It gives me the real excitement to be playing for the next three years at Emirates Old Trafford.
