I Was There – Experimental
14 min. by Chi Jang Yin, Chicago, IL, USA
Meditating on a survivor’s memories, “I Was There” traces the experience of a
physician who recounted his day as a rare witness of the atomic bomb dropped
on Hiroshima. Saving American lives is a commonly accepted narrative of why
the U.S. government dropped the bomb. This narrative, however, contradicts
the findings of personal letters, documents, and arsenal photography housed at
the Truman Presidential
Museum. The evidence
uncovers a reason for
testing the atomic bomb
on humans – competing
for war power against
Russia and securing
U.S. dominance in global
politics.
Last Days of Summer – Narrative
14 min. by Stenzin Tankong, India and Montpellier, France
A recurring mysterious sound from mountains in the Himalayas is heard
only by two curious young shepherds. Unable to convince the villagers of the
ominous nature of the sound, they journey into the unknown to unravel the
mystery.
Island – Experimental
3 min. by Jack Cronin, Canton, MI, USA
An enchanting and lyrical filmic postcard from Isle Royale National Park,
Lake Superior, Michigan.
Menagerie – Animation
4 min. by Jack Gray, Philadelphia, PA, USA
“Menagerie” is a study of the daily motions and mundane tasks of
contemporary city life. Featuring hundreds of looping animated characters,
the film explores how the repetitive actions of our day-to-day lives quickly
spiral into an endless kaleidoscope of abstraction.
