if we listen, that there is a deeper call for community, ritual, and radical joy. The
film is an homage to music artist Róisín Murphy, nightlife, the filmmakers’ love

of nature, and the
symbiosis and
power of coming
together to dance.

It’s 1991: queer life is dominated by HIV/AIDS and the disastrous fallout of
Thatcher’s government. In a quiet corner of the English coastline, Seb takes his
friend Terri to witness a triumphant celebration of queerness: Derek Jarman’s
camp and playful canonization in his garden at Prospect Cottage. 30 years later,
Terri takes her young employee Jude on a surprise trip to Dungeness, back to
the very same spot that
shaped her life. “The
Bower” shines a light
on how attitudes to the
LGTBQ+ community
and HIV have changed
over decades and
explores the idea of
queer inheritance in
this story of hope and
friendship.
