Tomato Kitchen – Animation
9 min. by Junyi Xiao, Pasadena, CA, USA
“Tomato Kitchen” is a social fable. The tomato-character can be any one of us.
As a Chinese person who lives and works in the U.S., the filmmaker has seen the
exclusion and suppression of new immigrants by old immigrants, including women
who have been abducted and sold to the countryside becoming accomplices
and abducting and selling women themselves. “Tomato Kitchen” is telling a
similar story. An accident interrupts Lee’s dinner with his colleagues. The dark
truth of the Tomato
Kitchen along with
Lee’s hidden past
are revealed by
this unexpected
incident.
