grams for the National Association of Retired and
Veteran Railroad Employees, Retired Teachers Association,
Albuquerque PEO Chapters, and church groups.
In Santa Fe Dr. William Grabowski is principal harpist
for the Greer Garson Theater. He played and recorded
Alice Parker's Three Carols for Children's Chorus and
Harp which has been used by Public Broadcasting
System television in several cities. He will play Die
Fledermaus for Opera West in March. Christina
Megeath performed Christmas music in two Los Cruces
churches. Randy Field, in addition to Albuquerque solo
and ensemble appearances, played in the Rosell Symphony
Orchestra for their February concert. National
Federation of Music Clubs programs will keep Susan
Davis and Lacey Bingham busy in March and May.
Laura Smithburg will play for the Albuquerque High
School production of Carousel this spring. Nancy Ruth
Weart continues playing in the orchestra of the Albuquerque
Civic Light Opera Association.
Shana Norton played a harp recital at Abilene Christian
University on December 10, 1978, where she is the
harpist with the orchestra. During the fall of 1978,
Shana played at Demetriades restaurant each weekend
evening.
Barbara Don Brooks played the Britten Ceremony of
Carols with the Abilene Harmony Club Choir on
December 6, 1978, and with the Abilene Chorale on
December 16, 1978. She is the harpist with the Abilene
Philharmonic Orchestra.
Two major chamber series in Los Angeles began this
SUMMER/1979
season with works featuring the harp. Nancy Allen performed
the Debussy Dances on the opening concert of
the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra on October 9th.
Lou Anne Neill performed the Ravel Introduction and
Allegro on the opening concert of the Monday Evening
Concert Series on October 16th. Amy Shulman performed
the Debussy Sonata on another concert of the
Monday Evening Series on November 13th.
On January 30th, radio station KXLU in Los Angeles
aired a program devoted to the harp in competitions
which was moderated by Diana Steiner. Featured in the
interview and musical program were A.H.S. President,
Ann Mason Stockton, and contestants Joann Turovsky,
Marcia Dickstein, and Tamara Bischoff.
Marilyn Berger played for the two-month run of the
West Coast premiere of The Grass Harp in North
Hollywood; a local production of The Roar of the
Greasepaint, the Smell of the Crowd; and accompanied
Lisa Karlan, vocalist, at the Santa Monica Community
College.
Konrad Nelson recorded two harp parts for one
movement of Recesses, a new ballet, choreographed by
Bella Lewitzky and composed by Larry Attaway. At the
premiere performance on February 27 at the Los
Angeles Music Center, he played one of the parts, synchronizing
it with one on tape. Two more movements
employed flute and electric piano in the same manner,
and the coda brought all three instruments together.
